I think it's mostly a case of getting used to making smaller movements than you might have had to do with the old one. I remember when I first got an optical mouse it was difficult to adjust. Also you can alter the speed like Kay says.

Maggie,,try going into Control panel from start,,find Mouse then see if how the speed is set,,,it may need slowing down,

LOL Teresa - It is an optic mouse - and Ive tried that, and removing cat hair, but it's been doing it since I connected it!!

*sigh* does this mean I have to do some dusting?

Is it an optic mouse ie one with the red light under? If so, try wiping the choccy biccie crumbs away, specs of crumb and dust sent it all over the place.

That since buying a mouse that connects to a USB port, the damn thing flies off on it's own!!
It's a right pain in the wotsit when playing games, as it clicks on all the surrounding ads!!
And trying to add to a thread on these boards can take ages as it is prone to fly off and land on the 'high speed print' thing just as I click,- and my printer's not connected so I then get reams of messages stating the bleeding obvious, but it ignores my 'cancel' requests!!!

*rant over*

Anyone else have this problem?
