I know a few people that drive bare foot, I've always thought this was madness and can drive in most shoes as long as they are not too high.

Having been to a party last night and dancing to the wee hours my feet were killing me and I had to drive 80 miles home in the small hours (I was on nothing stronger than lemonaid).

I had an oppertunity to slip my shoes off and put them in the passenger well and drove bare foot and it was a revalation!!!! Now I know why so many women do it!

I am not sure it would be an everyday thing for me - I have always thought it was dangerous but found I had no problems and prob safer than driving with my shoes rubbing.

Do you drive barefoot or have a fav pair of shoes in the car just for driving?

Morning, I can't drive barefooted nor in high heels, but I normally wear crocs and they're very comfy:)

I drive in crocs or trainers..can't drive in flip flops or anything with a heel!

Thats interesting - I've got a pair of crocs and agree they are comfy - but I cant drive in them - I find they get caught in the mat.

I cant wear flip flops full stop -let alone drive in them - I hate anything between my toes and flip flops - shudders - I think I am scared of them.

I can't drink in bare feet. So just drive in whatever is on my feet !


I can't bear flip flops either - never have - so uncomfortable having things between my toes!!

I drive in flat shoes but they must have a thin sole, can't wear trainers with thick soles as i can't 'feel' the pedals properly.

I cant drive barefooted. There are always sharp little stones that get into the car and they cut my feet.
Here in New Zealand we had something on TV about crocs shrinking and curling up if left outside in the sun. Do you have that problem over there?

I cant find anything saying its illegal - only recommending you dont do it as you could damage your feet if you have to break hard in an emergancy - which makes sense - but not illegal.

Maddiecow, sun is just a distant memory. We have had such foul weather over the last 2 weeks, rain hail thunder gales and now there is a lot of snow predicted. I hope we get some up here, havent had any for years. There was a good fall in 1939 (I was just a small child then) and in 1974 (I think it was) there was another fall, I actually saw it falling but it melted before it touched the ground although up on the higher parts of our hills it was 'better'. If it must be so darned cold, please let us have some snow.

There is also the issue of what happens if you are involved in an accident. The consensus is that the insurance companies may well refuse to pay out and you could end up with having to foot the entire bill.

If it is shown that you are the cause of the accident, you could also get done for driving without due care and attention.

I can drive in most shoes but I usually keep to one or two pairs - not at the same time though! - as I find the back of the heels get scuffed.

I do drive barefooted in the Summer sometimes, in fact I took my driving test in 1970 in bare feet!

I had heard it was illegal as well, just in case your foot was stung or hurt by something in the car. I can't see the difference between bare feet and flip flop type sandals though. My Aunt used to drive in her Scholl sandals with the wooden soles! I would have thought that was dangerous, but apparently not.

I like to drive in lace up shoes with a thin sole, so I can feel the pedals, and lace up so my foot dont come out of them.

Very dangerous Teddy if you have a hole in the sole of your shoe lol.Dad was driving in Cornwall when we were very young and we were very hard up.(lots of us kids lol)He had a hole in the soul, brakes failed and he struggled to get his foot out.lol Annie

Grannie, Dont worry, I would not drive in shoes that had hole in them. I just mean that I would not like to drive in trainers with a thick sole.

Did have some proper Scholls driving shoes, but this was years ago.

Driven in alsorts from barefeet, flip flops to wellies!! Usually light shoes, scholl sandals (not the wooden ones) with a back on or trainers now.

I am off out now, its been interesting reading all your comments. I have elected for soft pump shoes and shant be going barefoot today, however, I dont think I dont think I can say hand on heart in a similar situation I wouldnt drive bare foot again. Unless of course there is something to say it is definetly illegal.
