Liz, you would have to walk on the edge of the pavement with one foot in the gutter. |

In summer I only ever wear flip flops of various stages of smart to beachy type ones, and am ok driving in them, but have driven barefoot years ok, only odd times tho. I cannot drive in thick soled or stiff soled shoes tho as the flexibility isn't there and I feel it is dangerous. If I am going on a long journey I will usually wear flat full shoes, but for around and about I have my flip flops or boots depending on season. Have driven in high heels but it doesn't do them any good, imagine if you snapped your heel so you had to hop along when you got out the car, one low one heeled shoe lol |

Oooh, driving barefoot, painful. I drive in heels and flats, but if I have the option to change to flats to drive after a night out, i take it (quite often throw a pair in teh back of teh car). It's more comfortable and I feel I react better in flats, plus - it doesn't ruin the back of your best shoes! |

In the winter my usual walking shoes are fine for driving but in the summer I normally wear slip on sandals and so I keep a pair of flat comfortable shoes in the car just for driving. |

I can't drive in flip flops or high heels or bare foot. I have to drive in shoes which cover and stay on the the feet. |

The soles on shoes can be dangerous. I had some resoled recently and they slipped off the pedal when they were wet. |

I am off out now, its been interesting reading all your comments. I have elected for soft pump shoes and shant be going barefoot today, however, I dont think I dont think I can say hand on heart in a similar situation I wouldnt drive bare foot again. Unless of course there is something to say it is definetly illegal. |

Grannie, Dont worry, I would not drive in shoes that had hole in them. I just mean that I would not like to drive in trainers with a thick sole. |

I like to drive in lace up shoes with a thin sole, so I can feel the pedals, and lace up so my foot dont come out of them. |

I can drive in most shoes but I usually keep to one or two pairs - not at the same time though! - as I find the back of the heels get scuffed. |

There is also the issue of what happens if you are involved in an accident. The consensus is that the insurance companies may well refuse to pay out and you could end up with having to foot the entire bill. |
