I use it a lot, to declutter and occasionally to find an item. I make a point of replying to all requests so people aren't left on the hook so to speak.
This week we've disposed of an organ, 2 ceiling light fixtures, childrens books and an exercise bike.
Yesterday I took a friend who is starting from scratch again, she picked up window shades, outdoor toys for her daughter, flower pots and a water cooler. Every little bit helps, and keeps things out of the rubbish dump.
I would never post my phone number, address or full name on the list. I only give that information to the person chosen to receive the item.

she could always put a wanted message on freecycle explaining she is setting up home on a shoestring and list what she needs, people will then send her messages if they have something on her list, she doesnt have to take it if she doesnt like it or isnt suitable.

I didn't know about Gumtree, I'll tell her.

Folkestone has a furniture etc shop for British Heart Foundation now, so that might help her and Dover has a charity which refurbishes old furniture for resale.
I'm all for a bit of recycling.

Charity shops often have furniture etc too Gwyn, I have often found good things there and wished I had room for them lol

I just had a look on Gumtree, there is free stuff on there, and cheap things too.

She's trying to do this on a shoestring. We are helping a bit but can't afford to totally equip her place so I told her I'd seen that some GR people thought Freecycle was a great help.
The item offered is fairly near the flat, but she hasn't heard anything back yet from the advertiser.
I'll let you know how she gets on.

If she has trouble from people saying she can have and turning up and they say its already gone or arent in and no good reason for it tell er to get on to one of the admin team as they should monitor anone that does that and can ban them as its not fair whenyou travel to people to pick stuff up and its a wasted journey.

I use it a lot and it goes straight to the persons email noone else sees it.

Be prepared though some people get so many requests for one item they dont reply to all to let them know it has gone so you sometimes feel ignored.

If you reply to someones ad I think it goes straight to thier email box. No one else can see what you havewritten. If you place an ad do not give personal details as all will be able to see.

Also when placing an ad a moderator usually checks it first before it gets posted.

How do you answer an ad. when you see something you would like to have?
I haven't logged on but adult daughter has with her own account and registered, ...or whatever you do to view the pages but does a message go direct to the advertiser, or onto the open forum boards.?
She's a bit wary of what to post or ask incase personal information eg. addresses or telephone numbers can be viewed by everyone.

Can anyone advise please?
