The government response was published, on the petition, on the 27th September, 2007 - 10 days after the petition was launched.

Since then, almost half a million people have totally ignored it and signed regardless.

Hmmm.

Carrie. Should have gone to specsavers? lol :D

Eldrick if i'd had time I was going to post a thread along these lines. Apart from getting the full info first the one reason I won't sign petitions on the number 10 site is that I don't want the government to get hold of my e-mail address that easily. I know if they want to find it they can, but I'm not going to help them do it. ;)

Yes

When it was announced that London had won the hosting of the 2012 Olympics, the red arrows did a fly past.

The government denial has been there for months now.

I signed it weeks ago Eldrick....................I assumed it was genuine, if that makes me too trusting, so be it.

It didn't have the Government comments on it at that time............*I hope*

Eldrick Report 9 Jul 2008 15:55

The thread about the red arrows arose again - you know, the old one about sign this petition because the red arrows arent being allowed to fly at the opening of the olyimpics in 2012 because they are too British.

This is the government response - actually ON the petition -

'This allegation is not true. The Government has not banned the Red Arrows from the London 2012 Olympic Games. The organising committee of London 2012 will decide what to include in the Opening Ceremony and other celebrations - but with almost five years to go, decisions are yet to be made on what these will look like.

And of course the Red Arrows played a memorable role in the celebrations for 2012, when they flew over Trafalgar Square to mark London winning the Games.'

But people are still signing it! And still asking other people to sign it!

Why?

Does that not just show the total waste of time those petitions are? When the people signing them can't even bother to find out the facts first.....what possible value is there is their signature? Whjat possible value is there in a petition that is asking the government not to do something that it isnt going to do anyway?

lol

I despair at times...I really do...then I think - what the heck, let them get on with it and I get on with life.
