His Lordship.!!!!! had his annual check-up at the Royal London hospital yesterday. Can`t, won`t go on his own so I had to go with him.

Appointment was at 10am, we live 60 miles away....

The one and only train an hour leaves at 8.17am....it arrives in Liverpool Street Station at 9.30.

If we get the tube from Liverpool St that will take us to the underground station opposite the hospital.....ooodles of time says I. !!!!!!

The weather forecast said....over caste but no rain....So, I puts on my best blouse, skirt and very light cardigan, and my bestest high heels. I wear these usually to go from the house to the car, from the car to where ever and back again....so no walking as such.

His lordship decided that we needed the exercise and the AtoZ shows it is only a mile to the hospital from the main line station. "we can walk that in plenty of time", he said.

We came out of Liverpool Street station and it was chucking it down, the real hard stuff....No, I did not take an umbrella, remember the weather man said it would not rain.

He is doing his "royal walk", 6 foot in front.....trying to read his photocopy of the AtoZ page. We are now drenched and with gritted teeth I made him hail a taxi.

The taxi took us to the side entrance of the hospital as instructed by his lordship. "I know the way" he said. Since his last visit there is now no entrance to the main part of the hospital via A&E....Back out into the tipping rain, round the side, round the front, up the stairs and into the right department.

Wonder of wonders, he was seen right on time and by 10.45am we were heading out. It had eased up with the wet stuff but i wanted to cross the road and get the tube.......No, he really did want the experience of walking to Liverpool Street.

So, with wet, soggy photocopy of the AtoZ, we headed off. The part of the map we needed had disintegrated so we had to ask directions several times. The Royal walk was still in progress, I was almost in tears as my feet were screaming, but we reached Liverpool Street station in 35 mins.

We will get a sarnie at Boots, he said......Oh no we did not....he spied the hourly train home was leaving in 3 mins, so with a bit of sprinting (with my shoes in my hand) we made it, just.

The journey home was in made in silence, but boy could you have cut the atmosphere !!!!!!

The price of that journey for the two of us.....£53. He goes on his own next year.

God love you Kathlyn - you are an angel, albeit a soggy sore-footed one. Could I suggest you contact the makes of Monty Python and get this put on film for posterity - a different ending though - one where you go berserk and shoot him, but the all woman jury finds you innocent because of total provocation!!!

I think that when he said he wanted to walk back to liverpool street I'd have waved him off and headed for the tube LOL. Men, so damned pigheaded.
