The father may also be named if he was the informant, but depending on the age of the person when they died that may or may not be a gamble. There's also the possibility that rather than a father's name you might get a step-father who is listed as father but isn't. Don't forget marriage certs if he married.

Well I am looking for info on a Great Aunt on my Dad's side. I have been told only recently that she gave birth to a daughter, out of wedlock, and was banished from the family, and the daughter when she married came back to the village to see her place of birth, but wan't acknowledged or didn't make herself known to the family (don't know how they knew it was her lol)
If anyone has a Kate W. born in Gawcott, Bucks in the 1800's who had a daughter Joan out of wedlock, do get in touch, we might be related.

It is highly unlikey that it will tell his fathers name on a death cert - its usually ( as has been said ) on the death cert of a child and its usually because mother or father was the informant/

if a father isnt name, basically you dont stand a hope in billio unless mother is prepared to tell!

Thank you very much everyone for the information received, I think if I purchased my Uncles death certficate after reading all the information it might possibly not show who the father is. My uncles mother got married in 1927, so I am not sure if the man she married would have been my Uncles real dad. I will have to delve even deeper.

That makes sense for my one then...............he was overseas when the child was born and they married the following year.

I don't think they were allowed to put a fathers name down if the father were not there and they were not married.
The only way they could was if the father went along and signed too......

I have found no fathers name on a birth certificate in 1931, so don't think they had to put a name there.

It could even be a child who's mother didn't know the fathers name, or he may have been married to someone else and the name was left off for that reason.

I AM AT A LOSS

Hi Everyone

I have just obtained my Uncles birth certificate and his Mothers name appears on on the cert but their is no fathers name appearing on the cert at all. He was born in 1923 but his mother was unmarried at the time. Did they not have to put fathers name on the certs back in those days. I still have to obtain his death certificate as yet which should show his fathers name. I know my Uncle was born out of wedlock and he was born a Futcher.

Hope someone will be able to tell me the reason why.

Thank you.
