Didnt know than Ann,about a document
that sounds interesting.
I will look into that.

We dont mind what document/deeds we have,
just something to say the house is
OURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even just saying it, is making me feel so excited,
after all the hard work, you put into it,
working long hours, and many a year.

Thank you Merlin for your reply also.

I had the deeds to my last house in the dining room cupboard with the "posh" dinner service. The deeds to my current house no longer exist which is a shame as I'd like to have known it's history.

Thanks for your replies,
just wondering what is best to do,

Mau,the reason I asked is
the Building Society I am with,
several years ago,
sent me a whole pile of records of previous
householders.
dating back to 1880's,
stating they no longer hang on to old paperwork,
I was shocked and also pleasantly surprised to receive all of this.
I am now thinking of getting a fireproof box,
to keep it in.
Will perhaps think differently nearer the time,
I am getting so excited,
hubby and I will be mortgage free.

don't think they are deeds now - you have a document from the Land Registry. Ours were always kept by the building society - my OH left £1 in the account and they looked after them, but then they said they wanted to close the accoint completely so our solicitor had them along with our wills.

Hi Peeps,
Those of you who have finished paying your mortgage,
where do you store the deeds to your house?
with a bank?
solicitor?
or keep them yourselves?

just wondering, when the time comes for receiving my deeds.
which will be
VERY SOON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
