Love the advice they've just given:-
Wear extra clothes-we're all going to look like the Michelin Man.

lol. Yeah I suppose wearing more clothes is a good solution in theory but the extra clothes will still need extra washing cycles that's more in heating and water too...... extra drying....hmmmm not even able to put a load out on the line and it's mid July so more work for the poor old tumble and it's LOADS more money to use that too WE:RE DOOMED lol xx

So when we watch Prime Ministers Question Time in the winter, will we see GB sat there in his overcoat and gloves? I doubt it!

OK we sound like a political party here. One which is actually made up with real people who are suffering economic hardship.

What shall we call ourselves? Can we scrape together a deposit to stand at the next bi-election?

Eeyore with Tiger Stripes, your second line has made me laugh, and bought back memories. As a child just after the war, we lived on an island off the West coast of Scotland. My mother used to dress me, in the winter, in seven layers of clothing,indoors, and another two when going outdoors. It went like this, vest, liberty bodice, full underskirt,blouse,jumper,gym slip, cadigan. And ontop for the out doors, a coat, and a sou'wester, yellow like Captain Birdseye. I must have looked and walked like a Teletubby.

What worries me is that when prices have gone up in the past, they haven't actually gone down again when the crisis is over. So it looks like this 60% increase will become the norm

I must admit Julia it's a long time since I've done any knitting, so haven't seen the price of wool, will have to have a look round the local car boots and see what I can find, but I used to love knitting so would like to try again.

sueM, I was such a sickly little bit of a thing as a child, I'd had meningitis before it was invented,so perhaps my mother was being over cautious. But we have to remember there was no central heating in those days, and just after the war, the world seemed to be a cold place, if you know what I mean. Nowadays I look like a Tellytubby without wearing all those layers of clothing, But that is what I'm like and people have to accept me built as I am, although I have to say my life is a constant diet,with little result.
Just Barbara - I know what you mean, let me give you a bit of advice though. Look in the charity shops for pattens and needles, to help keep the cost down and build up you stock of sizes again. New needles in the wool shops are about £2 per pair, likewise patterns. In the charity shop I have bought needles from between 20-50p.

It's OK I used to wear the dreaded libery bodice too. Used to walk to school through the thick fog/smog in London. How I wasn't knocked down in the road is a miracle!

Scarves half way up face, thick mittens (they were supposed to keep your fingers warmer than gloves) Thick socks held up with elastic with ankle socks under them.

Kids today just don't appreciate global warming ;-)

I can't remember the last time I used the tumble drier. In the winter we dry washing on the radiators. In the summer we dry it in the conservatory if it can't go out on the line. They are so expensive to run.. And, thinking about it, i didn't have a tumble drier at all until the late 70s. all the time the children were young I didn't have one, and youngest was 7 before I had a twin tub washer. just had a baby burcoe and spin drier before that. Mind you i do think spin driers used to get the clothes drier than the spin of a washing machine nowadays.

Aaah now be fair!

We were promised that nuclear power would cost us all pennies per day and we would be using all our new fangled leccy gadgets continuously. I believe there was also mention of so much spare output that we would never be a net importer of fuel again.

I just want to add this bit if you dont mind folk.what about all the old folk that had central heating fitted under the goveernment scheme, 90% had to have oil as gas and electric was not a option, Oil is sitting at 65 pence per litre at present and set to hit £1.00 per litre by xmas. and as you can only buy in 500 lire loads that a lot of money.
My OH is disabled and we have to have the house warm for him. 500 litres last us 6/7weeks in winter.
I dread it if we have a hard winter.

You rant as much as you like. When I am sat for long periods I get cold and have my afternoon nap under the duvet! I can't really limp at speed to warm up!

I often go to bed early and watch TV when OH is working cos it's much warmer in bed.

I have even dug up a couple of flower beds to get the ready for next year to grow veggies, I have even thought about getting a couple of hens as I have a very large garden, does any one know the law about keeping chickens now. I am not in a built up area only fields alround.

I can't see how any savings we may be able to achieve will make much impact on the price hikes we are all experiencing.

OH is in training at present and his food, drink and vitamins are all essential purchases.

Even though we shop at Aldi and Morrisons our bills have leapt up in the past 3 weeks.

Our DD for leccy has been adjusted already and I am dreading ordering the bottled gas!

I agree Sue. I just looked at my Asda bill and cheese which I know used to cost abou £2.60 was £3.08 today !!! EXACTLY the same brand size etc as I've always bought. So the 40p I saved on buying really nasty mayo was eaten up by that !!! xx
