Lol Angela.... it's that last half a glass left from the bottle that you know is gonna be the killer!!

I love my wine... and can drink loads when pushed to it. but once I have eaten, I don't find it tastes the same... it often tastes metallic!! There always seems to be a half full glass when that happens, so rather than waste it... I freeze it! I so hate throwing anything away!!

Hello, Bev. I haven't used frozen mash but have been known to use Smash or whatever it's called, the packet mash.
Today we had pork steaks, home-made mashed potato, mushrooms, broccoli (not frozen), carrots, peas (frozen) and gravy (using gravy granules), followed by not home-made summer fruits cheesecake.

A mix of both, convenience food and fresh. If that mash is on offer, the Delia recommended one, I get some in for the freezer as it is handy if I run out of fresh spuds. I also keep a lot of frozen veg for emergencies or quickness, and freeze lots of things like good quality sausages, and meat that is reduced at the supermarket due to sell by dates being close.
Gravy granules and packets of Ainsley's couscous are useful too, and of course, tinned veg and fish.

When I am having a bad day with my chronic fatigue and fm, the last thing I can manage is standing preparing lots of stuff. I do make a big batch of savoury mince so it is easy to defrost and heat and use with pasta or something.
It also works out cheap to get the reduced items and freeze or use and the quality of some of the veg in our local supermarket often puts me right off.
As someone once said, Life's too short to stuff a mushroom lol

*hangs head in shame*
I bought my whole Christmas dinner from M&S - roast potatoes ready in goose fat, ready prepared veggies, turkey crown - and yes, it is more expensive, but in my defence I was working till 3pm as was my daughter, and we wanted to eat at a reasonable time.
On the whole I use a mixture of ready prepared and fresh but I NEVER mash my own potatoes - always get that ready done (ever since son said.....mum, I like mash, I like boiled potatoes, but I hate this confused stuff you do that can't make up it's mind whether to be mash or stay boiled)
I do work long hours and often get home quite late - that's my excuse!!

Lyndi, you shouldn't feel ashamed, we all do whatever fits in with our lives - no need to feel guilty.

I watched a programme the other day about a cooperative of farmers in Norfolk who help each other harvest their pea crop, so can buy the best machinery that they otherwise couldn't afford. The peas have to be picked from the vine, taken out of the shells and lorried to the factory to be frozen straight away, all within 2 and a half hours! Compared to veg that has travelled more slowly, been stood around waiting to be sorted out and then delivered to the shop from the place they have been packed at, they are much better tasting and more nutritious. If you are lucky enough to live near a farm shop or can afford to buy from places like that, fine but most of the fresh fruit and veg has been treated and travelled miles, and then been in the supermarket warehouse before getting out on to the shelves, so not as good as it could be.
Same with eggs and meat etc, so 'fresh' isn't always best lol

That is why I make loads and put it in the freezer... so that on my bad days, I can just get sommat out.

But I don't work anymore, so I have the time.

When I was working full time and the boys were at home, I used frozen veg, etc all the time... lots of things then that I could just knock up quickly... on my days off I would be busy catching up on the swearword, lol... no time for bulk cooking then.

The thing is, I have two reasons for cooking from scratch, one is that I am needing to watch the amount of salt and additives in my diet, I am sensitive to wheat and have very high BP, although controlled... so if I want my bit of toast, I have to watch what goes into the rest, lol

The other is that I love to cook!

I love to have a McDonalds once in a while.... and I have a tray of chips every time I go to Dunelms in Cardiff... the van there does the best chips!!

For me it is all about my need to monitor the majority of the food I eat because of all the *hiddens* that I need to be careful of, and also because I now have the time to enjoy cooking.

I don't think anyone should feel bad about using frozen and convenience foods.... as Liz said, it is usually, veg wise particularly, healthier and fresher than much of the veg in the *fresh* section of the supermarket!

Love
