Hi All Sorry just managed to find my post!

I have managed to find my great grandmother and her sister and first husband so slowly but surly getting there - I think this is going to take much longer than I origionally planned!

I have been using another site to search and just about to look at the free bmd

Thanks again for the help - think I may also go and post in searching too.

Alison.

Not forgetting to ask for help on the boards..like.."The Trying To Find" board..and "Tips" and "Records Office"
You'll be amazed at how helpful some of the folks here can be!

Well...does your mother have names for her parents?.
If so.. you can then look for the marriage.
Surely your mum would know there ages?..and possible area where born(probably where they were living)
If not ..possible age..then you have a time zone to where to start looking for marriages of folks with those names.
Once you have that..then you can start looking for possible childern.
Children who have the surname of your mothers father, born to a mother with the maiden name on the marriage certificate.

When you have the marriage cert. You then can also start lookling for folks with the same surnames..possible parents, brother, sisters etc
Once you have one..look for matching details.
But dont get to excited straight away..like i did.
I thought I'd found info...to then..find out I was barking up the wrong tree..lol

Just gather info..cross reference etc.Until your 99% sure..then order birth certs for the folks you feel are 99% certain of..this will confirm for sure the details you have.

So on and so forth..
Hope are understand.

Start with you Mum's parents, do you know their names? They should be on her birth cert, do you have a copy of it?
