Just had message that my aunt last remaining member of my mother's family has died in New Zealand just a few days short of her 90th birthday.

A remarkable lady had cancer three times and beat it, always full of fun and a mine of family information which I have been very glad of.

I will miss her very much. Bless you Auntie Vera x

Thank you all for your thoughts, just spent the last hour talking to my sister in Australia and laughing about Auntie's antics.

She had had a double mastectomy in her 40's and also in recent years lost an eye to cancer and used to joke she didn't know who to leave her spare parts to in her will!

She always made me laugh (when I could get a word in ) I last saw her 9 years ago and spoke to her often on the phone.

Rest in Peace, Vera, you will obviously be greatly missed.

Your Aunt sounds a real character Linda and I am glad you had the chance to know her so well.

I have a cousin of my Dad's who is a mine of information about the family and I wish I had made contact with her years ago, when Mum died and I took over her address book, this cousin wasn't listed so I thought she had passed away. Wasn't until 3 yrs ago I found out she was still going strong, she is now 88 and amazing. I am hoping to visit her in Banbury as soon as I can.

Liz that is wonderful hope you have a lovely time.

My aunt lived in England until retirement then went to NZ to be near her son and family as they had emigrated.

She was much younger than my mum and I was brought up alongside my cousins as we were all a similar age so knew her all my life. She was such fun (but could be a tartar at times!)

She would be tickled pink that she is getting a mention on the internet LOL
