ORGANISING PAPERWORK

Stacks of paperwork census returns etc have built up. Is there a proven method of organising it ? I had thought of numbering each document and use a spreadsheet to index it. Anybody have any thoughts or ideas ?

When you find out best method come and do mine I am literally knee deep in it!!

I put my census years in folders so easy to go to when I need them.
