LindainBerkshire1736004 Report 5 Feb 2012 16:38

Here in Berkshire we had about 7cm but through the day it is melting as we have had +2C. Just hope it doesn't freeze tonight it will be like a skating rink.
Filled up the sunflower seeds and water trays for the birds this morning. Been very busy all day.
Have had the chaffinches back, redwings possibly a mistle thrush too. Still the Robins rule the roost.

I reckon we had at the most 2 centimetres and it has all gone now.

Jane Report 5 Feb 2012 13:53

Well I think we had about 4 to 5 inches of snow.It seems to be thawing now ,but I reckon it will remain quite deep on the lawn for a while especially if it freezes. The Birds have all come out now and are flitting around feeding and singing. The 2 Wood Pigeons are loving it up on the trellis again ;-)The lonely little Moorhen has been as has the Gt Spotted Woodpecker.
The dog has been for a walk around the back field and just loves the snow. It's funny watching him stick his nose down through the snow and then come back up with a big white blob on the end of it :-D
How much snow have you all had?

Jane

Jane Report 4 Feb 2012 22:01

The rate it's coming down now I think the dog will need stilts in the morning to go out lol.Good thing that the birds can fly on to the feeders and not have to plough through the snow :-D

Jane Report 4 Feb 2012 17:13

Ann ,I just rang my Sister to say we are home and the snow seems to have stopped there. They had had a good covering. There just a few flakes coming down when we left there.
That bird could have been a Red Kite.It just seemed to look bigger. So I'm not sure .I hope our Garden Birds have had their fill now and have gone back to their nests for the night.

Tec!! :-D The ICE on the car melted!

Jane you must have left tewkesbury before the snow reached there, well i assume they have got it as we've had it for 2 hours now. Glad you are home safely. Could the bird of prey and beed a red kite?

Jane

Jane Report 4 Feb 2012 16:54

Have just got home from visiting my Sister in Tewkesbury.Just in time I think. The snow is just starting to come down.I nipped out and replenished the peanuts ,put more seeds out and thawed the bird bath .
On our journey I saw several big birds of prey. One was enormous sat in a tree at the side of the M42.I'm not sure what it was ,but it looked bigger than a Kite or Buzzard.
Yep it is coming down now!!!.I hope you all stay safe and warm tonight I won't be going anywhere except by the log fire :-D :-D

No snow here, but lots of birds today. Looked out of kitchen window at 2 pm to see a buzzard sitting on a post at the end of the garden - he looked quite forlorn - beautiful bird.
We had one visiting last year when it was cold, and although I put out pieces of stewing steak it never took it.

Ann - Your car melted??? :-D.

Tec.

We had some bluetits in the tree next to our windows this morning, flitting about prettily in the sunshine. Both now gone but no snow - it is forecast for later but I don't think (hope!) we'll have any yet.

Lots more feeding here too...including a SPARROW HAWK, l tought there were 2 cause he/she flew over the fence and when l moved to look further along the fence it was back again, l think they are just very quick. Took loads of photos.

Also had a female Black Cap, dear little birds. Wood pigeons as usual, doves, crow, jackdaws, 4 or 5 m/blackbirds, couple of females, great tits and blue, and even coal tits, just a few of each. BUT NOT many Sparrows and no Starlings.
4 robins, all sorting territories and missing out on the food...dohh

Great :-D :-D

Lots more birds feeding this morning as everywhere is frosted. Sun is shining though and the car has melted so must be some warmth in it. :-)
