Mo in Kent Report 8 Mar 2014 14:41

Hi there Jean,
A picnic sounds lovely, can I come along with you. lol
We are starting to panic here, Roly has just gone for his fitting of his penguin suit.
Trust our daughter wanting to go the whole hog, for her wedding.
They had top hats and tails for her first wedding as well. Poor Roly, being so short, he doesn't suit them, as the tails come to far down his body at the back.
I have yet to find something to wear, and we only have till June to get organised, oh boy great fun, but we will get there eventually I suppose.
We have a lovely day again today, and I have spent a couple of hours outside in the fresh air.... wonderful.
Well girls, I hope you are all well, and hope to hear from you soon. Take care, Mo xxx

Mo in Kent Report 5 Mar 2014 14:02

Hi there everyone.
Ann, I didn't realise you were on your hols, you lucky girl. Enjoy yourselves, but as Jean said, take it easy on the vino, we know how wobbly we can get after a few glasses, when the ground starts to move around with every step we take. LOL

Sylvia, I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss. We are all at the age, where good friends and acquaintances pass away, and leave us behind to grieve. Not that they would wish us to, but it's human nature to do so.

Sallie, I didn't manage to clear all the weeds from the garden , so will tackle some more over the next few days. After doing my leg in digging the raised flower bed, I have learn't my lesson. I am still getting the earth from the bed as well, but slowly slowly catchy monkey, will get the job done.
We have'nt seen Lilly this week, so I assume she is o.k, or we are bound to have had a phone call otherwise.
I hope your abscess is not playing you up today my love. If it is, off to the dentist you must go.

Jean, like you, we have got beautiful sunshine today. We did put the heating on this morning, but have had to turn it of as it's so flaming hot indoors....I never thought I would ever say that again. lol

Right thats it, I am going out in the garden, I have just decided as it's sooo lovely out there.
Bye for now girls, hugs to all. Mo xxx

JustJean Report 5 Mar 2014 12:21

Sylvia so sorry to hear your sad news it must have been such a shock to you both....Love and hugs

Many thanks for all your cards and good wishes for J and myself, we had a funny old day ;-) ;-) ;-) we have a new light in the kitchen and one of the bulbs went, so J had to go and get some spares, then we had a guy coming to put the kitchen plinths back so thats done now, then my tooth started aching so yesterday I went to the dentist, nothing too bad although another visit next week :-| :-| we are hoping to go out for lunch soon, well after all these years we are quite flexable about dates .... our littlie is now walking or should say running , :-D :-D :-D no stopping him now.....

Ann, we have nice sunshine here and its quite a bit warmer so there :-P :-P :-P
have a great time and steady on the vino.... dont forget my pressie ;-) ;-) ;-)

love Jean xx

Sallie Report 4 Mar 2014 21:30

Ann, hope you both enjoy your holiday in Spain. Pleased that you are better apart for the lingering cough.

Sylvia. sorry I missed you on here, so sorry to read of the death of one of your friends from the island.
Also answered you on Shaun's thread.

AnninGlos Report 4 Mar 2014 21:04

Hallo, keeping an eye on you from Spain. Lovely here today, warm and sunny but from the forecast it can't last. Still it was so good to see the sun.

Elizabeth, lovely to see you on here,mI hope that you are well.

Sylvia,oh how sad it is to lose good friends, I am so sorry.

Huia lovely to meet up with your cousins. I think you do very well learning all this new technology.

Sallie, feeling better now but the cough lingers on.

Mo, sorry to hear that florence has yet another problem, I hope it can be solved without too much hassle.

Jean.... Hope you are ok and that you enjoyed your anniversary.

Sallie Report 4 Mar 2014 20:54

Hi girls,

Let's hope I can get to post this message, this is the third time I have tried, lost the first two, they just!!

Mo, sorry to hear that Florence is still not one hundred per cent. Also sorry to hear that she has another growth....let's hope and pray that the doctors are right when they say that they don't think it is cancer.
Hope all goes well for her on Friday when she sees the specialist and that the biopsy results will be good and clear of cancer.

Having to have radiotherapy on any part of the body is a horrible treatment to have, but to have to have it on the face must be horrific. As you said, she is still recovering from the burns to her mouth and lips that the radiotherapy has left her with.

Sending her lots of positive thoughts and get well wishes. <3 <3 <3

You have been a busy bee today. Did you manage to get all the weeds cleared?

Hope everyone is alright with you. Have you had Lilly over the last few days?

I think that I have a small abscess under one of my teeth, it's given me a bit of pain over the last two days. I am rinsing my mouth out in hot salt water every four hours and taking painkillers. Felt better this afternoon, so managed to make some cards.

Hello Elizabeth, it's lovely to see you on here, you are always welcome to pop in to see us any time.I hope that you and all your family are well.

Huia, love the photo of you and your cousins. It's lovely that you were all able to meet up, especially as you don't see the very often.

It would be nice to think that maybe Phil recognised your voice, if only just a bit when you visited him.

I agree with you when you say Alzheimer's is a slow lingering death, after seeing how my brother-in-law is. It's terrible for them and it's cruel for their loved ones to see them as they get worse over the years.

My cousin also has Alzheimer's and she is going into a home tomorrow. She has a daughter and two sons, but her daughter lives up in North Wales and they live in South Wales.
She has to go in for her own safety and the families peace of mind, although they are dreading taking her there tomorrow.
I seen her at Christmas and then again at the beginning of February for her birthday, and she had deteriorated a lot in that space of time.

Spent a lot of time last night reading a good few pages from the beginning of this thread. Gosh, we all did have a lot to say then, it was lovely reading through the posts. I could still remember so much of it.

Jean, Sylvia, Ann and Marie hope that you are all well.

Well must go now. so will speak again soon.

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Mar 2014 20:48

Hi Mo, and everyone

it's raining here, but it is also quite chilly ................ and there have been reports of white falling in some areas. :-(

I heard this morning ...................

one of our best friends, part of the Island group that we visit .................. died very suddenly last night.

I'm beginning to hate 2014!

take care everyone

Huia Report 4 Mar 2014 18:43

Mo, I doubt if Phil will ever be up to par again. It is such a long slow lingering death.

I am off this morning to the shop. One of our women has been absent for 6 weeks, recuperating from an operation, so she has to learn how to use our new scanner at the till. I thought I might be needed elsewhere for odd jobs. If not, I can do my shopping and come home.

Mo in Kent Report 4 Mar 2014 13:48

Hello ladies,
Sallie, my friend Florence is still not quite one hundred per cent. She is due back at the specialists this Friday. They think they have got rid of the big C, but she has now got another growth, thankfully they don't think it's cancer, but they have to remove it and do anothe biopsy on it. It's in the same area as the original bad growth, so they are a bit concerned about it.
Her mouth and lips are still recovering from the radiotheraphy burns. Poor girl has gone through it, bless her.

Thank you Elizabeth, it's lovely of you to drop in and see us occasionally.
I do hope you and yours are keeping well my love.

Huia, what a lovely photo of yourself and your cousins. How lovely for you to all manage to meet up.
Steady on my love, our stomachs can't take to many spicy these days can they, not like when we were younger. If I have a curry now, I have to have a very mild one, or crikey, do I suffer afterwards.
Sorry to hear that Phil is still not up to par. It does sound like his memory was stirred when you visited him, as he raised his eyebrows at you.

I have just come in from the garden, where I was doing a little bit of tidying up. Goodness me, where do the weeds come from.
Well I must go now girls, speak to you later.
Hugs to all, Mo xxx

Huia Report 3 Mar 2014 22:02

Hello girls. I am still in the land of the living. As you will see from my new avatar I met up with 2 cuzzies and their hubbies on Sunday. One cuzzy is from Australia, I have met her twice before. She was flying on to S America later in the day. The other cuzzy is a kiwi and I know her well. We had lunch at a café. I chose soup with bread, as I don't eat a lot of lunch. The soup was very spicy. I managed half of it and could feel it in my innards for the rest of the afternoon. *note to self, avoid anything that might be spicy*.

When the others went to the airport I decided to visit Phil since it was not too far away. He had his eyes open and when I stood in line with his eyes and said 'hello Phil' his eyebrows went up briefly, almost as if he recognised me or my voice. But he doesn't seem to be able to talk now and soon he had his eyes shut and probably went to sleep. He has a chest infection which the home has been treating with antibiotics for 2 or more months now, but his breathing sounded a bit harsh to me. I left after 20 mins.

I went back to Papakura and did a little shopping before coming home. Yesterday (Monday) I went in early to our Hospice shop and trimmed some cards and cut them into strips for the pricers to cut into single tags to put the prices on. We now have bar coding and have had to learn how to use the scanner, but we have to put our password in before each sale, which is a bit of a hassle. I make some mistakes and have to call for the boss to correct them. My partner on the till made a worse one and lost the picture on the screen. The boss had trouble getting things back so she phoned the helpline, but just then she got it right. I keep saying 'I'm resigning' but I guess I will get there some time. Just remembering to do the right things in the right way, that is the problem, although there is a card there giving instructions, but it doesn't give them all.

A belated happy anniversary to Mo and Jean. This month it will be 55 yrs since I married, but I no longer think of it as an anniversary since Phil hasn't lived here since shortly after our 50th.

Sallie Report 3 Mar 2014 18:47

Hi girls,

Mo glad to hear that you got our card okay, sorry it was a bit late getting to you both. Hope that you enjoyed your anniversary meal out with your daughter and that the food was as good as it use to be.

Keep meaning to ask you, how is your friend Florence getting on? I hope that she is making an improvement and starting to feel better. Please would you give her my best wishes, when you see her.

Happy Anniversary Jean and Jeff for today. Hope that you are both having a lovely
Love and best wishes to you both. Sallie and Alun.xx

Sorry that I didn't realise that your anniversary was today, so I'm late sending you our good wishes.

Sylvia, hope that you haven't had any more snow there and that the rain washed away all the snow you had.

Ann, hope that you are feeling a lot better than you felt over the last few days.

I sorted through some of my craft stash over the weekend, but still have more to sort , I also need to sort out my Christmas stash. I keep saying I am not going to buy anymore, but still carry on!!
As both you and Jean know, it is an addiction that we suffer!!

Huia and Marie, we haven't heard from you for a while, hope that all is well with you both.

Must go now, so will speak to you all tomorrow.

Mo in Kent Report 3 Mar 2014 18:08

Hello girls,
Before I go any further, can I just say many many thanks for the lovely cards, they are absolutely wonderful.
It's surprising how hard it is to find a decent card for a 50th anniversary. Our family couldn't find a card for parents on their 50th, and even Roly and myself found it hard to find some, with nice words in them.

Many congratulations to our lovely Jean and J, who are celebrating their anniversary today.
I do hope you are both enjoying a wonderful day.

Sylvia, I do hope the rain cleared all the snow away for you. I know that you have to keep your paths cleared, and it will save you both the job of doing it.
Fingers crossed, we haven't had any of the white stuff yet....(says she with her fingers crossed behind her back)

Once again, many thanks Jean, Sallie and Ann for the beautiful cards.
It's time for dinner now, so I must say cheerio for now. Hugs Mo xxx

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Mar 2014 20:35

Hi Mo, and everyone

we got up to snow this morning .................. about 2cm that fell between about 6 am and 8:30am

then it stopped ....................

and it is now raining

yesterday it was dry, but a bitterly cold wind.

March definitely came in like a lion!

We have our main meal in the evening .............. and it is roast pork for us tonight

I wonder if we will have leeks tonight????

OH went into the garden yesterday afternoon, and dug leeks to have with last night's turkey sausages ................. our nod to St David's Day :-)

take care everyone

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Feb 2014 19:00

Hi Mo, and everyone

for tomorrow :-)

it's a lovely sunny day here :-)

but the "s" word is in the forecast for the weekend :-(

We've had another offer on the cabin ............... this one wants us to carry the mortgage for 2 years. That's not unknown over here, and would be all set up legally by a lawyer, and the buyer would be just as carefully checked out. But it does need thinking about!

Apparently he really, really wants the property, can pay a good deposit, but can't get a "normal mortgage.

Ann .............. glad that you are feeling a little better. Those coughs are a nuisance, aren't they?

take care everyone

Mo in Kent Report 28 Feb 2014 15:18

Thank you girls, for the lovely cards, and best wishes.
We start to celebrate tomorrow, after many years of disagreement on the dates lol.
50 years ago tonight, we were at the cinema together, and at 1.30 p.m tomorrow we at the church taking our vows.
Our daughter is taking us out for a meal, at an eatery that we have not been to many a year, so fingers crossed it is still a good one.
As for last nights escaped at the dogs.....well, my three legged dogs did quite well, but I did not come home with my purse bulging with money, I believe I broke even, but it was a lovely evening all the same.
Thank goodness the weather held...not that it would have made much difference as we were in the covered area.
But we didn't really want to see the poor dogs getting soaking wet, just to please some punters.
The whole evening only cost us £6.00, and that covered our entry fee, a free drink of any type, a meal (I had sweet and sour chicken with rice ), and the first bet free.
And we were home by 10 p.m, so not to late. Mind you, by that time the temperature had dropped to 3C, boy was it chilly.

Got to be up early tomorrow, Lilly is descending on us for the morning. I just hope this rain clears up by then, so that I can get her out into the garden.

Take care everyone, hugs, Mo xxx

AnninGlos Report 28 Feb 2014 15:10

Happy anniversary Mo and Roly, I think it is really the 29th isn't it? Hope you have a wonderful day whenever you celebrate.

Sallie, the cards are lovely as are Jean's thank you both.

Lack of sleep with this cold and mainly the cough really wipes me out. We have done the Tesco shop today and I tried not to breath on anyone. thankfully I didn't have a coughing fit in there and only sneezed a couple of times when we were in the computer inl isle and nobody around. I also didn't touch the fruit/veg so hopefully I won't have spread it too much. Cough doesn't give any signs of going at the moment, not too bad during the day but as soon as I lay down at night it starts so again I spent all last night sitting up in the spare bed. At least I've found a use for the fruit tea I had in the cupboard (unopened), it is a refreshing hot drink and quite soothing.
:-) :-)

Sallie Report 28 Feb 2014 14:34

Ann, just seen your email, thanks for putting the pics on the blog. It's a long while since I have put any on there. Sorry I can't comment on the blog itself.

Hope you are feeling at least a bit better today and feel like doing a few odd jobs. Take care of yourself.
