Diamonds-R-A-Girls-Best-Friend Report 4 May 2012 20:18

Help needed please.

Our eldest daughter is expecting our first grandchild and she has asked me to knit some babies clothes, that's not a problem even though I haven't knitted for about 25 years, the problem is we don't know the sex of the baby so I don't know what side to put the buttons but in the back of my mind my mum used to say that if you didn't know the sex of the baby it was the norm to put buttons on what side please I can't remember. Please tell me I'm not dreaming this and I hope this makes sense.

Lovely idea to make baby things for the hospital.

Hi Jude
ThaNKS FOR THE LINKS oops
I have found some tinies patterns and will try to make some hats the next time we go near the hospital. Have just finished a cardigan to go in my gifts box either for grandson or for the new baby expected in September.

I did take the Kindle pattern too and will look at it properly soon as it seeems to have some diffferent ideas.

Yes our grandson is doing well. He is still under the hospital for a reflux problem and will need a scan to check what is going on. But with medication he is gaining weight. Now at 9lb 6oz+. He smiles so much and its in his eyes too.

I'll try to get some photos when I have finished some things too

Hope you are enjoying your holiday Ann its awful here.

LindainBerkshire1736004 Report 28 Apr 2012 08:03

Morning everyone
I have found an outlet for my knitting and crochet. The local special baby care unit. My grandson was cared for by them back in February when he was born. I had spare baby wool so made some blanket squares, which my daughter took in when he went for a check up on Thursday. They were really happy to have them, and said any more would be lovely and tiny clothes too for the premature babies.
So now I need to find spare wool and also so tiny patterns too.

Hope everyone is well here.
I don't always add but do read of the beautiful things you make here.

I think we call it an exploding box rather than explosion but I know what you mean Annette. Never made one myself though.

Hi moonbi and thanks for the explaination.
I had visions of panto special effects!
I think I prefer a box that doesn't fall apart. :-D

moonbi

moonbi Report 26 Apr 2012 23:31

hello Island

called explosion because the four sides of the box unexpectedly fall open when the lid is removed.

If you want to, you are able to see demos of how to make an explosion box on youtube. just type in "paper explosion box"

Mine has 3 layers that fall out when you take the lid off. by 'fall out' I mean the sides are not connected, but the bottoms are glued one to another.

the sides are decorated as if they were pages;
using photos, stickers, ribbons, tiny buttons and little sayings etc

usually with a theme. ie birthday, spring, wedding....
just like a mini scrap book; only different :-)

I am going to give mine to my daughter for Mothers Day which is on the 2nd Sunday in May here.

take care all

yesterday my best friend and I went to craft. she wasnt feeling well so she sat and watched.
the group started to make an explosion box.
I got my 3 levels and the lid cut out and folded. now we take home and decorate as we wish.
The instructor had 5 or 6 to show us as examples, which I thought were very pretty.

So Im going to have a bit of fun in the next day or so with this.
Putting my sewing aside this week, as my machine is in for a service.
While I was at the shop I booked in for a 4 week project in May. making a small quilt with the dresden plate design.
So when I get the instructions emailed I have to go and buy fabric for this.

A very cold wet Anzac Day here, and my wood fire is blazing.
xx to all
