Thistledown Report 19 Oct 2009 17:24

Hi , all she has to do is go into youtube and see how suddenly and unexpectly a fit and healthy young person can died
The person that i refer to is Miklos Feher who died suddenly playing on the football field, he was laughting and talking to the referee and turned round and dropped dead.
The one to look for is R.I.P. MIKLOS FEHER R.I.P.
He was 24 years old.He was an International football player.

I heard this on the news last night, and was totally disgusted.

She had no right whatsoever to say what she did.
It's all just aimed at selling the paper.

Both her and the DM should be made to publicly apologise to Stephens family. Have they not suffered enough, without having an idiot passing comments on something she obviously knows very little about?.

I can verify SADS. When I was 29, ( a very long time ago), I had a mate called Patrick, he was 32, great local footballer & cricketer, intelligent, fit and healthy. One morning his wife found him dead in bed. It seems he had this underlying heart problem that nobody knew about. The coroner returned a verdict of "natural causes" and said it was like a timebomb waiting to happen.

Jan Moir should apologise unreservedly.

Deanna Report 19 Oct 2009 14:43

Even her response is an insult to Stephen, and every young person ever to die from this SILENT INVASION which kills them.
I just hope that the silly, arrogant, opinionated woman NEVER has to go through what Stephen Gate's, and many, many other parents have had to suffer.

Just to accept that she was wrong, and ADMIT it, may have gone some way to easing the pain of the people who have lost loved ones in this manner.

And yes Rambling rose, Richard Beckinsale is one we ALL remember. That too was a dreadful shock to us all.

I heard this morning, that Stephen's mother was so upset about him having to lie in the church... all alone all night.
The lads in the band then went to the church with their sleeping bags and *kept him company*.
Bless their hearts, that was such a lovely thing to do for his mother.

From the DM e mail replies and remarks

Moir has responded in a statement which said: 'Some people, particularly in the gay community, have been upset by my article about the sad death of Boyzone member Stephen Gately. This was never my intention. The point of my column was to suggest that, in my honest opinion, his death raises many unanswered questions.'
The Press Complaints Commission has received more than 1,000 complaints and one complaint has been made to the metropolitan police

She is a sensationalist reporter. The Daily Mail really ought to now do a report from CRY on SADS to counteract her remarks.

Seems this has really stirred up a hornet's nest, yet the D.M. seem to be supporting her! Wonder if they will be so supportive if they have to pay a big fine or whatever the punishment is for publishing homophobic comments etc

Rambling Report 18 Oct 2009 17:48

she is old enough to remember the death of tv's Richard Beckinsale ( Rising Damp and Porridge)... a healthy young man who died in his sleep of a massive heart attack....( " he seemed healthy and fit and had no cardiac problems in his medical records." ...2 health checks in the previous year ) .

Teddys Girl Report 18 Oct 2009 17:39

Researching my family, I found my 2 x great grandmother, went to bed one night, and never woke. This was in 1863, and there was a Coroner's case. I dont suppose they knew of SADS in those days, but that is what I think it must have been. She was only about 30 at the time.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 18 Oct 2009 16:07

She needs to do some researching before she engages her mouth. Seems to assume anyone in the show business must be leading a life of rock and roll with drugs and booze.
I remember many years ago going to school with a young lad who went on to Grammar School at aged 12. He broke his leg aged 15 playing soccer and went to hospital to have it fixed under anaesthetic and didnt come out of it . seems he had an underlying heart problem that hadnt been detected .
So YES Jan apparently healthy young men or woman can suddenly die with no apparent pre warning AND not from any lifestyle excessess

Julia Report 18 Oct 2009 15:54

Purple I saw this too, and was incenced by her ignorance, and to put it into print at such a sad and emotional time for all his family and friends. When I saw the picture of Ronan Keeting close up today, my heart bled for him, as it does for all his family.
So sad, so sad. God rest you Stephen.

My young DIL died suddenly in the night last summer so know how it feels!! How would her little boy feel if he had to face uninformed comments like those in the article!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 18 Oct 2009 10:01

I read it but put it down to her normal ignorance. Can't stand her. I hope somebody will reply publicly to it. It need a doctor or somebody from Cry.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 18 Oct 2009 04:46

Thanks all who replied, I am sure there will be more written about this now that there has been so much criticism altho I think I heard that the Daily Mail stood by her comments. Clearly she needs educating and I hope someone from CRY or similar will be making contact with the paper and getting something in there to explain that her comment is incorrect.

Seems sad that Stephen's family have this problem already in their family and haven't investigated further, maybe now they will get checked out the way our Gillian got her family checked.

Apparantly this article has been reported to the press complaints authority more than any other complaint. I have'nt read it but have heard on the radio about how revolting the article was, casting aspertions on his lifestyle and sexuality.
fgs, the poor man is barely cold, what happened to respect for the dead and their families.
