poshpixie, if everyone kept their opinions to themselves half the threads that have been posted on these boards would never have been posted (on).

Janey did mention Iraq as one of the many examples she's given but her original thread was commenting about a poem that she objected too. having read the poem and her posts I can see why she objected to it.

As for threatening violence because you disagree with her, not very mature.

The thing is every and each UK and US (or any other countries for that matter) serviceman or woman in theatre doesn't give a flying what not about what you think.. They are far too busy staying alive

Oh I see not. Posh Pixie, Janey may have offended you and I can see that the thread this morning upset many people. But this my thread, a new thread and if you are going to sling insults I am going to delete it, which will solve nothing will it?

Chris, at the risk of assuming, I think it's this remark Janey is talking about:

"But to generalise, as you did in your now deleted thread was way off the mark"

Janey doesn't think she was generalising about soldiers on her thread, she has already accused me of misrepresenting her by saying that she had generalised about soldiers.

Can I leave it?? As adults we should be able to debate without throwing insults shouldn't we? and I do want my dinner!!!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Nov 2009 18:19

Excuse me, I see the connection:

"I pretty much have contempt for most in the US and virtually all in the UK who are 'serving' in Iraq, however. Pure contempt, with a dollop of hatred thrown in."

Nonetheless, that is not a "generalization". It is a statement of my feelings / opinion.

The invasion and occupation of Iraq are illegal under international law and not in any way otherwise justified (as an invasion of Rwanda might have been, or an invasion of Sudan might be, based on overwhelming international opinion about humanitarian aid that is not yet codified in international law or sanctioned by international practice).

That's enough, really. The fact then that the infrastructures of the country have been destroyed - material and social - and thousands upon thousands of non-combattants have been killed and more maimed, and atrocities have been committed by the occupying forces ... I need some further reason, something you might not already be aware of, to feel contempt for participants in the action? Do none of them have free will?

I had to come back Janey - so we get a burnt meal Lol!!! But I am concerned that bad language will have a good debating thread deleted.

just to let you know janey
you say people who have very little idea of politics or international ideas become soldiers

well you make me chuckle ,
the reason is my husband tho he left school and joined the army , i can be pretty sure in saying knows a fair bit about politics, and hes definately the one to have on your side in an arguement,
tho he admits he didnt leave school with top marks,
English was one of his top subjects,

these men and women who join the army may not have A levels,
or degrees, some of them may though to your suprise have both,
but all of them are not pig ignorant as you clearly are,
they show compasion,
loyalty
and are proud of their country,

if your sprouting this in the name of religion, as you seem to keep mentioning priests, then i feel sad for you
cos this is what most wars are about,
the terrorist always sprout in the name of who ever they are praying
cos they are hiding,
hiding behind an excuse for being bullys with low self esteem

Yes that is fine Chris, I didn't want it to degenerate when I was not watching and as I said Janey is not around to answer at the moment. If I leave it and it is OK I am sure she will come back and answer.

I assume you have read all through this thread in case she has answered elsewhere, it is so long that I don't remember.

Little Buglar, if you care to retract your false allegation:

"But to generalise, as you did in your now deleted thread was way off the mark."

I'll be happy to reply to your questions.

The prospect of simply having everything I say misrepresented is not an attractive one.

poshpixie:

"you should keep these personnel oppinions to urself !"

Well well. And when you thank those soldiers for your freedom of speech, are you whispering that they should make sure it's only for people you agree with?

Don't hold back - you call me all the bad words you can think of. Freedumb of speech!

rollingonfloorlaughingmyyouknowwhatoff

I do think it's rather unfair to Ann in glos, given the conventions of this board, to behave like this in her absence, however.

Chris I don't think janey is able to reply at the moment she has said she is going to be working for a while. Please try and keep it a reasonable as possible as I too am going off line for a couple of hours. It has been a good debate so far.

SRS I think Janey has deleted the letters you wanted from that post.

Sue what did you find insulting? Sorry, are on about the post SRS is on about or the original thread. If the original thread I think we have moved forward. I will be leaving this thread now for a couple of hours. Does everyone think it will stay OK because if it is going to 'take off' while I am not watching it I will have to delete it.
