Sufferers may find this interesting, an excerpt from DM

'I had some blood tests done at the doctors and they came back saying I had arthritis.'
The arthritis spread to other joints including her shoulder and toes and finally her spine.

'I was given stronger pain killers and anti-inflammatorys, but they main me violently sick so the doctor took me off them and told me to wait six weeks for an appointment with a specialist. I was bed bound and in absolute agony,' Mrs Gall said.

'I couldn't even walk - let alone get out to play the organ. I had only just started having some more lessons but I had to give them up because I just couldn't play anymore. I had become depressed and was crying with the pain I was so frustrated.'
Mrs G who lives with husband A , an electrical engineer found about the alternative cider vinegar cure from her daughter who had researched the condition on the internet.

The recipe was first devised by a nurse called Margaret Hills in 1961 when she herself developed rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 21, during training.

Hills believed arthritis was caused by the body building up acid, which crystallized and lodged between the joints. The acid crystals would then become surrounded by fluids, causing swelling, soreness and stiffness.
So in her recipe Hills concluded that it would be alleviated by using the vinegar and honey's alkalising effects to cut down on acid entering the body.

Mrs G said: 'It suggested drinking cider vinegar mixed with honey and hot water so I started to drink it four times a day,' she said.

'After only a week I started to feel much better about things and he pain started to lessen.

'I started to get gradually better and I began to start to exercise too. Eventually the arthritis had gone and had actually disappeared. I didn't need to see the specialist anymore so I cancelled my appointment when it finally came through.

'I didn't take any medication and I was pain free. My doctor who had seen me when I was bed bound was flabbergasted. He almost fell of his chair when I told him how I had got rid of the arthritis.

'I had no side effects from drinking the cider vinegar and I was back to playing the organ regularly for my local church - after fearing I might not walk again let alone play the organ.'
Mrs G has been pain free for four years. She wrote a booklet about her remedy called One Advance Against Arthritis.

Try reading this... I tried the apple cider vinegar and honey thing a couple of years ago... it turned out I didn't have RA, lol so it had no effect on me.... but my skin was lovely, I didn't have any colds the entire time... but I did find the taste pretty awful, lol.... you don't need much, though. I might try it to lose a few (?) pounds, lol

Thank you Wendy, It doesn't always pay to be sceptical, it is best to keep an open mind about these things.

Island, I wouldn't discount it entirely, though.... not at all.... we used to use it for the horses when they had strained a muscle or had joint problems... as an embrocation, and also mixed it into their feed... I also know that vets still recommend it for a wide variety of complaints for animals... I don't mean the posh vets you get these days, but the more old fashioned vets.... those who are in it to help animals, not make bucks (broad generalisation, I know) and my own current vet will often suggest old fashioned tried and tested remedies.... she is just 33!

I have an open mind on many of these things... my own aches and pains were actually not RA.... they were almost certainly to do with the blood in the marrow beginning not to work properly.... what turned into my acute myeloid leukaemia... but that cannot be confirmed yet, as not enough research has gone into it... and even though I am in remission now, the joint pain can still be almost unbearable at times..... but the causes are not the same.

When we lived in Cyprus we had an older, Scottish SSAFA sister.... Gwyn in Kent might remember her... now my kids never ever got sunburnt.... but her remedy for sunburn was.... a mix of honey and vinegar, the honey heals, the vinegar reduced the swelling... and it has worked with people I have used it on when nothing else was available... insect bites etc too....

So I think it is a very effective anti inflammatory for some types of inflammation. But not necessarily all.

Most importantly... it isn't toxic!! Well, I suppose it would be if you drank gallons of the stuff, but yuk... who'd do that??? So it might not heal but it will not harm, unless allergic to it. I always keep some in...

Thanks for that Ann, I shall give it a go although what I have is Osteoarthritis which is also inherited. I remember my Grandma moaning at night with the pain in her joints and thank goodness my own just hits me for a period and then goes back to being bearable! I think taking fish oils and walking every day has kept it at bay, but I shall happily add cider vinegar and honey...whatever it takes! BC XX

Hi Island....yes, tell me about it...I was diagnosed with probable RA, and supposedly referred to a rheumatologist, which didn't happen until two years down the line, and after treatment for AML, so it wasn't that at all,lol... I am undergoing other tests right now to see if a label can be put on it... had all the xrays, scans etc a couple of weeks ago, but Rheumatologist has suggested that some scans I had on my spine, hips and shoulders show osteoarthritis... which is wear and tear... so a bit different... but the thing is, not enough is known about how medications etc work... and I agree, RA is an Auto immune disease, so the disease itself is incurable... but I do think that there are some old fashioned remedies which ease the worst of the symptoms in some people... enough so that they feel as though they are recovered. And in so far as they are then symptomless, then so they believe...

As you said, the factor can be there, and some folk not feel any discomfort at all... and it can be totally missing, and be absolutely crippling... it is actually quite difficult to diagnose properly, so I am told by my Rheumy!!

I am not necessarily bothered about curing my aches and pains, as I am realistic enough to know that this is unlikely... but would do almost anything to alleviate the flare-ups and discomfort when that happens... or even stop them altogether for a while... rather than the heavy duty painkillers which I currently have, and which dull the pain but have me feeling like a 5 year old nicking granny's sherry lol ;¬))
