Does anybody have any knowledge of the Gate Inn Aston. A relation of mine was resident there in 1911. It was on Lichfield Rd.
(I have tried google but nothing)

I looked it up on 1891 pubs:

http://www.1881pubs.com/Search.asp

and it gives the address as High street, Aston.
Then looked up Pubs in Aston, and came across this site:

http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml/tr/1808/

Don't forget, pub names change.
There's at least one in Lichfield road, and one on the High street - I haven't trawed through all of them.
The Barton Arms looks impressive though!

The name has probably changed, LD - hence the book on pubs of Brimingham may give a history.
Looking at a Directory for 1911 of the area may give you more of an address, but road numbers may have
also changed over time.
You could also try looking up the history of the pubs in the relevant area(s) - using their present names.

It might be worth asking this question on www.birminghamhistory.co.uk

You would need to register, but it is free. A useful forum for the area. often someone will have the answer you seek.

Or are you able to get to Birmingham referance Library (On the 5th floor of Central Library). They have a few trade directories, old maps of the area, elect. registers and much, mush more.
