I used to love cheese and potato pie but OH doesn't like cooked cheese so never do it. Oh I misread it as 8.30am!!

Lamb shank cooks really well in the slow cooker.

Hello Ann, no, didn't leave it overnight. Turned it off 8.30 last night. Pie is now made, and cooling for the freezer. Also made a Cheese and Potato Pie like we used to have at school. Got my recipe off of the www.allotment.org.uk/recipe site. Very easy, peasy. Saving that for tomorrow as we have a funeral on, and I hate going out and having to start 'mealing' when I get back. OH Liver and Chips tonight, me, Prawns in a sauce c/o Birds Eye, and Rice. Have to vary things a bit, or it gets boring.
Couple of weeks ago, I put up a thread about Lamb Shanks, and only Puss answered. Didn't get round to doing it, but low and behold, in the March edition of the Country Living Mag. there is a section on cooking lamb and mutton, including the Shanks.
Happy Cooking

Julia, do you mean you cooked it overnight to 08.30am? And are making meat and potato pie today???

OK I am on my way!

Julia Report 17 Feb 2010 10:06

When preparing last night's meal, I chopped up an onion and put it together with some stewing meat, and popped it into the slow oven. Was cooked by 8.30. Had also cooked a pan of potatoes. Already and prepared for my Pastry day, today, for amongst other things, old fashioned meat and potato pie. Now where is that flour

Doing another beef stew and dumplings in mine tomorrow.

Yes, I have done a lamb shank, today I have braising steak in mine, I love the fact that I then don't have to do anything towards the meal except cook some rice, pasta or potatoes.

We cook all sort in ours. Lamb shanks are so tender, they just fall off the bone. A friend of ours also cooks pork chops in hers on low. Ours is a big 6 ltr one, and we would not be without it.

Mince for bolognese cooks really well in the slow cooker if you cook it with tinned tomatoes and Dolmio bolognese sauce. I leave it cooker all day (about 8-9 hours on low and it is a lovely thick sauce.

Mary in Spain's Pork in Cider Recipe
I said I'd come back and give a report on this.
This was absolutely scrummy, but another time I think I would keep the Pork Steak in one slice, instead of dicing it up, though this did not detract from the taste. I only had to cook this for 5hrs, instead of the 7hrs as recommended by Mary. But mine is a slow oven rather than a slow cooker.
I would definitely make this again, and still havn't filed the recipe away yet, as want to keep it at hand.
Well done Mary, it was lovely. Many thanks

Wow .....yessssssssssss
Cartwheels onto thread, even does a backflip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Made a beef stew and dumplings and it was so tasty, the dumplings were the best l've ever made.
I asked my son if he wanted any and he said no thanks but when he came in after work he asked what the smell was and when l told him he said he would have some and had a big plateful, so must have been good, lol.
Thanks Ann for putting this thread up about slow cookers, best thing l've ever brought and thankyou to everyone for your recipes.
Wonder what l'll be cooking next, x

The other week I read on here, someones recipe for Pork in Cider, and said I was going to try it the following week.Unfortunately, I did not get round to it. But, I have just taken the pork out the freezer, and will be trying it tomorrow, because OH has a long trip out, and it will be just the ticket for when he gets back. Will report back.

Got pork and apple in mine today, cooked another piece of brisket in it yesterday but it wasn't as good as the last piece. Difficult to know if it was the joint or the way it was cooked. It was not as tender.
