Hi, l have lamb chops in mine but l am not as adventurous as Ann yet, l am using a coleman's lamb mix, it smells lovely and am also serving it with sprouts, runner beans and mashed potatoes.

Got lamb pieces in mine today with tinned tomatoes, mushrooms and a sauce made with a tin of carrot & coriander soup, red wine and a small amount of gravy powder. I know, all my recipes are a bit hit and miss but I rarely have a failure. I often use a tin of soup as a base for a sauce/gravy. I will serve the lamb with mashed potatoes and veg.

Sorry Liz, and that was my suggestion! It IS very small but I didnt want too much clutter and it is perfect for one so I would imagine it would be suitable for your son. More recipes and ideas please! BCXX

I showed the small one to o.h. today and he agrees it will be too small so will get the larger one from Argos when I go out and take the small one back or show it to my son and see if he thinks it will be big enough for his use.
O.h. said someone at work had been saying they were going home to a nice stew and they used a slowcooker so I think he is coming round to the idea. Trouble is finding room for it, as his kitchen is so small and hardly any worksurfaces.

Will keep you posted.

I chopped some onion and put it under the meat, then I put in a small amount, less than a pint, probably half a pint of red wine and water, I poured it over the meat. The meat then cooked in that and its own juices. which I used to make gravy.

Ann, what did you add to the brisket when you put it in the slow cooker, ?

AnninGlos Report 26 Jan 2010 21:53

I was particulary impressed with the brisket I cooked Sunday, weight just under a kilogram. Roast for two of us Sunday, sliced cold with beand and oven chips Monday, curried today with some left over veg. Not a bit wasted, lovely and tender and beautiful flavour, all for £5.47.

I got the small one from Argos, like yours I think BC, but sadly the one I wanted which was reduced from £29.99 to £14.99 was out of stock and not in the new catalogue so that was disappointing. It held lots more so could cook a whole chicken or a large quantity to freeze portions. Got the small one home and it is small so I think I will go for the Cookworks one which is £14.69 almost twice the capacity of the small one and once I have tried it will show my son and see if he wants one.
Has anyone else got the Cookworks one mentioned above and if so, is it ok?
I remember using one in a flat in Cornwall once or twice, our first holiday together and it was October so I did some pork and chucked in some pieces of apple that we had too, it was tasty and impressed o.h. lol
Was nice to come back to after a day out sightseeing.

Ann,
Hope the brisket turned out Ok.I cooked a piece last week about the same weight and I left it about 5 hours.Beautiful and tender.
Here's a recipe for Barbecued pork chops I have used and recommend...........

4 pork chops
25gms oil
1 med onion chopped
15ml(1 tbs)tomato puree
2 tbs vinegar
2 tbs brown sugar
1 tsp english mustard
2 tsp worcester sauce
125 mls brown stock
1 level tbs plain flour.
4 pineapple rings

Method.Season chops and brown them both sides in frying pan.
Drain and transfer to slow cooker.
Lightly fry onion and add to chops.
Mix together tomato puree, vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, worcester sauce and stock.Pour over chops.
cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high 3-4 hours.
Half an hour before serving, stir in the flour(I prefer cornflour as it mixes better)
Place a pineapple ring on top of each chop and baste with the sauce.
continue cooking for 20-30 mins.
(the pineapple is optional).
