SuffolkVera Report 10 Apr 2024 15:01

No rain today yet but it’s forecast for this afternoon again. It’s not cold but it’s still very blowy.

I am still working my way round all the built in wardrobes and cupboards in OH’s room as all my stuff plus various household things are there too. It’s taking me ages and I am shattered but there’s not much more to do. I’ve just been trying on a couple of skirts and some trousers deciding whether to keep them or not. I love one of the skirts but sadly my waist has grown since I last wore it so that’s for charity. One skirt has gone back in the wardrobe and a pair of trousers put aside.for someone I know will love them. There is so much piling up for the charity shop that we’ll have to make several trips as we can’t stop outside either of the shops we go to so can only take as much as we can easily carry from the car park.

I’ve also put aside to go to the big paper bin at the tip all my course texts and books and all my assignments and essays from when I was doing a degree with the OU back in the 1980s. I was sad to see them go as they represented 6 years of hard work while running a home and a job at the same time but there was no point in keeping them any longer. As I was glancing through them to see what was there I caught sight of a tutor’s comments on one essay about my conclusions regarding “the reductionist aspects of instinctivism”. What??? Shows how we forget. Once I could write about it, now I don’t even understand what it means :-S

I hope you are feeling better today Mandy. I’ve been wondering how Gill is getting along these days too. Perhaps she’ll post again one day.

didn't take long for it to start to rain and hasn't stopped since, looks as though it is set in for the day. Really fed up with the weather now.

Now its raining.......

I do hope they can do something with that Chapel as its a lovely building and as someone else said it would make a good museum or information centre and it would be such a shame for it to just rot away and fall down. The sitee must have been huge when it was in operation.

Morning Anng and all,

Dull and grey here this morning and its 10 degrees and not as windy as it was yesterday. Gosh it was gale force yesterday. Just got my coffee and its raining. So much for te nicer weather later in the week that the weatherman promissed.

I have to get down the post van and then to the garage to drop my car in to be looked at. I hope she starts for me this morning and if she does I shall leave her running while in the van so I know I can get down Stuarts. Wish me luck? :-S

AnninGlos Report 10 Apr 2024 07:41

good morning all. 7 degrees and a bit grey here but so far dry. But so it was yesterday early and then it was a wet morning but a dry afternoon until about 4. Not very nice weather at all and it was really windy yesterday as well. forecast was not good for today, still supposed to be windy.

Ann, yes it would be good if they did put information boards up on the old buildings. I have noticed that they sometimes do it in Gloucester town, especially when they are re-building areas. They are also quite good at putting up information when archeologists are involved.

SuffolkVera Report 9 Apr 2024 21:31

Mostly wet and windy here today as well. I’m not surprised Jake didn’t come AnnG as it certainly wasn’t a day for working outside but it is frustrating when you want to get on.

I found what you said about the chapel very interesting Annx. I hope it can be renovated. As I said in my email it could perhaps be used as something like a local museum.

It sounds as though you’ve had a busy h/w day Mel and the call from the dentist has given you some idea of what is happening. I hope he can get your plate back to you quickly so you don’t have to live on mashed potato and scrambled egg.

I worked hard on sorting wardrobes this morning but still have a bit to do. There’s another big bin liner full of blouses/tops/jumpers and oddments like scarves. They’re all in good condition so will go to the charity shop along with a very good jacket and a lovely waterproof coat with a hood. I don’t really want to let them go but I haven’t worn them for a long while and I can’t make OH get rid of stuff he doesn’t wear while hanging on to mine.

I also managed to do the ironing and a bit of general tidying up and cook a casserole with pork shoulder steaks and all the veg. Now my back is aching and I’m feeling a bit weary so I think I will take a wheat bag and my book and go and read in bed. I’ve got propping the pillows behind my back and putting the wheat bag in the right position down to a fine art now. I hope you all sleep well tonight.

Annx Report 9 Apr 2024 20:44

Evening All,

A miserable wet day here, so I have done nothing really apart from get lunch. Oh I had a text about my covid booster, so I made an appointment for that. May was the earliest date. I slept quite well for me and lay in, but OH had all the doors open and a window, so I could hear him and rattling from somewhere so gave up and got up.

Mel I sent an email about the chapel. I see you have done more than me and got some HW done. So you may or may not have the tooth out on Friday as well as impressions?

Yes AnnG, the architect designed buildings in the city that I recognise as well. I do wish they would put information boards up around things like that and think some local people would at least volunteer to help clear the site if they knew the history. At least where it is it is pretty safe from vandals, as the single lane road to it looks like a private road and you can't see the building from the main road. What a shame the weather is holding Jake up. I know what you mean about wanting to get things done when they start to drag on a bit. It holds you up from doing other things. It's good your dentist didn't find any work to do!

Oh Mandy that feeling doesn't sound pleasant and it could be to do with your ear perhaps. You might have to see the doctor again if it keeps happening.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Apr 2024 19:46

Did you find anything out about the chapel Ann?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Apr 2024 19:38

Interesting about the hospital and chapel and you would think the chapel deserved to be preserved. Not, maybe as interesting as chapels hundreds of years old but having all the details surrounding it makes it historically interesting. It is bigger than I first thought it would be.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Apr 2024 13:08

Needless to say Jake is not here, no way he could paint with the heavy showers so now I have to wait until another day. I am at the stage now when I want the garden jobs to be finished with.

Mandy, yes that does sound like vertigo, maybe you should go back to your GP. Hope it improves today.

Ann I should have commented on the chapel as well. It is always sad to see these places deteriorate. There must be many people who would love to be able to see inside it.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Apr 2024 11:33

I had a call from the dentist this morning to say he would take the imperssions on Friday but he did'nt say if he wqas going to take the other tooth out he mentioned. He said he had taken the repair down to the lab but they had said to do the impressions so they could make a new set. I hope they get it right this time.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Apr 2024 11:30

I was fighting with the fresh quilt cover when the Asda man came and I did'nt hear him till he knocked on the door.

Put it all away and am having a little sit to recover from changing the bed. I only have to put the pillow cases on now so that a good job out of the way. I have had a good dust of the bedroom behind the bed and sets of drawers with my skinny mop but I now need to dust all the windowsills and tops.

Its surprising what I get done when the sun shines. The winds blowing a gale and it has'nt rained yet so far so the sheets are getting a good blow. I had the quilt out there while the sheets were washing so that smells nice and fresh now too.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 9 Apr 2024 09:58

It does sound a bit like vertigo Mandy. Has the doctor considered that? I hope it eases for you today.

It’s been pouring but has stopped at the moment. The forecast says rain and gusty winds all day. I’ve just been laughing at a couple of goldfinches on a feeder. They are hanging on for dear life as it’s being blown around. It looks like one of those fairground swingboats as first one side goes up, then the other.

I think it’s definitely an indoors day so I’m going to sort out some of my wardrobes. Have a good day :-)

EDIT. I meant to say Annx that I hope something can be done with that little chapel. It would be a shame to see it knocked down if the building could be restored and used in some way.

Morning all,

Dull here with rain and a bit breezy, I think we should have showers today .

My head hasn't been that good again yesterday I was quite swimmy, I'm beginning to wonder if it's a touch of vertigo .

That's enough screen time for now might bbl .

Good morning all, a night of mixed sleep, first 4 hours good then patchy sleeping and waking.

It is dull, 6 degrees and very windy again and Jake is supposed to be coming to paint the seat and also maybe the little arbour. He will be here at 0930,

I need to do a bit of dusting I think.

Good morning all

Dull, damp and windy today. I slept fairly well but was wide awake by 6 am. I haven’t got any plans for the day but I don’t think I’ll be doing any gardening.

Morning all,

Very very windy here this morning and its 6 degrees and pc says Windy!!!! I think I can hear thateven though I have double glazing.

Shopping comes today and then the rest of the day is mine so perhaps I can get some HW done or I may get sidetracked by my miniatures, we'll see how it pans out.

Anyone going anywhere today? or been anywhere last night?

How did you all sleep? I thought I may have trouble after an afternoonish sleep but I drifted off straight away. Had a strange dream again but can't remember what it was. Probably after I had been up for the loo and gone back to bed. Something aboiuut a lot of grassland.

Is stiak I wnt i dr

I felt so tired when I had had something to eat and I was cold too so went and lay on the bed and fell asleep and woke at 5.58pm. Had to rush around and do the girls corn and turn the heating on and make a COT.

I had sold two things on Ebay which had had bids on them yesterday so I had already boxed them up but the annoying thing is the post van dos'nt come till Wednesday when the car is due in the garage. Things are certainly not working out for me lately. I shall have to try and get up the post van on Wednesday and leave the car running if it will start in the first place, and then go on to Stuarts.

I do hope they can do something with that little chapel Ann and they don't knock it down or let it get too bad for anything to be done with it. I think if it was decommisioned they would be able to knock it down but I am not sure as its grade two listed. If the windows are broken the damp is going to get in and that can do a lot of damage if left. These kind of building were very precious to the people who used them its so sad they fall into disrepair and are unloved.

Annx Report 8 Apr 2024 19:25

More traipsing to and fro to the dentist then Mel. It's a nuisance your plate repair won't be ready sooner. As AnnG says it's back to mince again and maybe mashed potato and soup.

AnnG we were commenting on yet more road works today on the way to the carvery and had to come back another way. Our meal had OH vowing yet again to give the place a miss. Two of the tucked away tables we usually head for had large groups near them so we went for a corner table right at the bottom of the restaurant. It's a bit dark there and the music was loud but no-one else was there. Someone different was taking orders at the bar who said they had no decaf tea, so OH said not to put the teabags in the pots, The silly chap forgot so I only had half a cup as I have to avoid caffeine. The till played up and OH was ages trying to pay. Then 3 noisy, young women arrived with a baby about 10 months old, all talking at the top of their voices and shrieking. We gave up trying to have a conversation. Our carvery was ok today, but as I cut into my Turkey, I really didn't need to hear one of the women shriek out that the baby girl had a smelly bum did I!! Then all 3 women plus baby went to order food and OH said to look across at their table. I couldn't believe they had left a handbag, purse and two mobile phones on top of the table in full view for anyone to steal and they couldn't even keep watch as their table was behind a wall. I wouldn't put a handbag on a table where people eat anyway. Some also plonk them on toilet floors or on the floor in cars and anything could end up on a table. At the factory shop there was nothing I fancied but OH found some much better stick on numbers for our bins than the green flowery ones I put on. These are bigger and flourescent yellow so show up better. Another job for me and now all three bins to do. :-S

On the way home we found our way onto the huge site that used to be a mental hospital built in the early 1900s. It was closed in the 90s, mostly knocked down and Santander have their head office there now and my hairdresser is there as part of a gym. The NHS has some buildings and there are things like a childrens' nursery and a golf course. The original lake is still there. I had read about a chapel to the hospital still being there, so had gone to look for it after my recent haircut. It looked small, was fenced off, covered in ivy and overgrown all in front of it. When I looked it up it said it was grade 2 listed. OH was interested and said we might get closer to it from a road to the site from the other side of it so we had a look today and found it.. It has fencing and safety warnings all around it and ivy growing across the back too but is much bigger than it appeared to be. The tiny windows are broken, but there is an atmosphere with it among the trees and I couldn't help but think of the tortured souls from the mental hospital praying for peace of mind in there in the past. I hope they don't let it decay so it's past repair and have to knock it down. The developers would love that, but it is a much more interesting building that the modern boxes built near it. I'm curious about the inside so will do a bit more research.. I'll see if any photos I took are good enough to send. I couldn't get very close due to the fencing and there was too big a big bank for me to climb along the side.

It’s been dry and fairly warm, though not very sunny today. With a bit of a breeze the washing all dried well. We’re forecast rain this evening again.

You’re not having much luck at the dentist Mel. I hope they can get you fixed up quickly so you can eat properly again.

AnnG, it sounds as though you got on OK once you actually got to the dentist but it wasn’t a very easy journey was it. It’s our turn for the dentist later this month and we find now that, if we are going to the dentist or hospital, we leave plenty of extra time as we never know where there will be road closures.

I hope you enjoyed the carvery and didn’t spend too much in the shops Annx. I think you are right about BBC iPlayer. It is now set up on my new iPad but I had to sign in to it again before I could check that stuff I was watching on the old one had transferred over. So far, so good. My next problem is the Mail app. Again everything has transferred over OK but, even though it is supposed to be synced with my desktop and my phone, there are no emails appearing and the iPad is telling me it needs my password. I had to have a think about what password they meant. Back to check the old one again (sigh) where I found that there was a 9 character hidden password in the mail settings. I tried everything I could think of to get the password showing but I couldn’t get anything more than 9 black dots. Then OH had a vague recollection of setting the original mail system up on our computer and filing a note of the p/w ............somewhere! After a lot of hunting with his head buried in the filing cabinet he emerged triumphant bearing a scrappy bit of paper with the p/w and it had 9 characters. Great I thought, we’ve cracked it now. Wrong again. :-|. I typed in my 9 characters and the system accepted it. Hooray :-). Then up came a box telling me my email address was invalid and didn’t match the p/w. Boo :-P. So I am back to square one. Still can’t get my emails on the new iPad and don’t know what to do next. Suggestions on a postcard please.

Now I’ve bored you all silly I’d better go and decide on dinner. OH wants cold beef and salad so I expect that’s what we’ll end up eating but I don’t really fancy that tonight.
