Afternoon All,

We had thunder and hailstones first thing. I had to dash to warn OH who was in the shower in case he couldn't hear it, but he had and had cut his shower short at the prospect of electric and water and his beard standing on end. :-0 He went to his meeting, so I went to a garden centre and had a small brekkie there as I wasn't doing lunch. OH had taken sandwiches with him as he needed to go straight for his bone scan after his meeting. He was saying how handy it was as the hospital is near where his meeting was. However, when I got home there was a message on the home phone to say his hospital appointment today had been cancelled due to illness! I couldn't phone him to warn him as he was in the middle of an exclusion hearing interview so texted him instead. Luckily they had voicemailed him as well so he knew.

Mandy, yes it's no eggs, cheese or caffeine either, the same as with one of my tablets. It was a while before I found out about mine as well, so I wait a couple of hours now. Doctors and nurses don't seem tell you these things. I was even advised by a nurse to take a calcium tablet every morning and she didn't even ask or look at what medication I was on. I'm glad you felt up to getting some jobs done today. It makes you feel better as long as you pace yourself. Did you see the knitting pattern for the Budgerigars in WW 2nd April copy? I think I'll see if I have any wool I could use and might make one while we are away this year. We have those metal things to hold back the bedroom curtains and I could do two hang them on those if I like the first one. I like things that make me smile.

I managed to dust a bedroom and the hall yesterday and that was enough for me. When you think what we used to be able to do as young women and still have energy left in the evening to go out if we wanted to! Still, slow and steady gets us there, just like the tortoise! lol.

I'd better start tidying in here now. Like Mandy said we have showers and sunshine here too.

We've just had hailstones , thunder and lightning and now the suns out .

SuffolkVera Report 15 Apr 2024 15:10

I am definitely going doolally. I was sure I had done just a short post yesterday but clearly I didn’t.

What terrible weather today. Saturday was like high summer here, Sunday was a lovely spring into summer sort of day and now I think we’ve leapt straight into November. It’s apparently 8 degrees but feels a lot colder because there is a strong, bitter wind and every so often there is a really heavy downpour. We’ve also had 2 bouts of hailstones this morning.

My day hasn’t been much fun so far. First I had to drive to the chiropodist. It’s only about a mile and a half but I had to contend with 2 lots of roadworks and some standing water. When I got there I explained to her that, in spite of wearing a toe prop to keep one toe lifted a bit, I felt that a corn had formed underneath and it was very uncomfortable. The chiropodist looked and said it wasn’t a corn but a verruca and quite a big one. Goodness knows where it came from but she thought the virus had got in through some weakened tissue and had probably been lying dormant for quite a while. Anyway she cut away and it bled quite a bit so she put a dressing on it and hand made me a sort of moulded toe prop to see if that will work better at lifting my toe. I now have to file the dratted thing with a fresh piece of emery board every day and dab some stuff on. At the moment I am very sore and limping a bit.

That’s quite enough of my problems. I’m glad you have a little more get-up-and-go now Mandy but don’t be tempted to do too much. You need to give those tablets time to work.

Mel, that will be great if you do have baby robins. It certainly sounds as though Robbie is feeding a family. You and AnnG, both seem to have done a lot in your gardens when the weather has permitted. I’d like to be doing more but after half an hour or so I find my back starts to play up.

It’s frustrating, isn’t it, when you want to really move along with the jobs and you find you keep needing a rest. I get so cross not being able to do what I could do even a couple of years ago. I don’t know about the rest of you but I find if I take a break when I’m doing a job I just don’t want to get back to it.

We haven’t had our meeting about the club name yet Annx. It will be tonight. I don’t suppose I’ll make much of a fuss but, according to the Constitution, any constitutional change needs 6 members to sign a letter requesting a meeting (that hasn’t happened), and any change requires a two-thirds majority to vote for it. The trouble is those who are in favour of a name change don’t seem to realise that there is a bit more involved than just deciding you fancy being called something else. Constitutions have to be rewritten, bank accounts have to be changed and new cheque books and documentation issued and so on. I was secretary for many years and, looking through old committee notes etc, I see I discussed this with the bank back in 2011 and the committee decided then that it would be a great deal of work and hassle for very little gain. Well, we shall see what tonight brings.

I’d better go and see if the washing machine has finished yet. It’s the 3rd load that’s in but I haven’t been rushing with it today because there’s no chance of hanging it out anyway. I’ve just looked out of the window and our crab apple tree that was a complete mass of white blossom has hardly a petal left on it and OH has just come in with a scarf that he’s found caught round a plant by our garage. That’s a fierce old wind out there blowing everything around.

I did finish the bedroom but it took over an hour to do. It all looks nice and clean now though. And the window cleaner has just been too so that finishes it off.

Afternoon all,
Sunshine and showers here ,blue sky for half an hour then it clouds over and tips down and with the wind it batters on the window .

Oh Mel little baby Robins, I wonder how many they have in the nest .
We had to buy some new twinkle lights last year as I had them over the roses and fushas but I managed to cut through the wire .

I know too Anng what you mean about being able to do several bedrooms in a morning, I use to go through them easily in a morning now I'm lucky if I get one done .

Today is the first day for a while I have felt like getting on with something ,I have hoovered right through downstairs and managed to hoover the stairs and get two loads of washing in ,no chance of hanging them out with this weather, next door but one has a cherry tree in the garden and the wind is blowing all the blossom into the garden ,it looks like pink snow as Gwyn said the other day .

The other thing I meant to say yesterday was that Robby is now taking worms away in his beak so he must have some babies. Its been happening for three days now.

sortof halfway through a minor spring clean of my bedroom but after half an hour needed a short breather. Gone are the days when I could have done at least two rooms in a morning.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 15 Apr 2024 09:05

Morning all,

Wet and windy and pc says light rain and 9 degrees. It is really windy and really wet just as the chicken runs was dryiung out nicely and they had clean feet for two days instead of the ususal platform soles.

Nothing urgent to do today but Dentist Friday.

The other setof solar lights round the patio fence has now gone so no little twinkles around there anymore and I shall have to take the two sets off which is back breaking work as the fence is so low and they are on there with loads of little wire plant ties. A job for a little at a time I think the same way as they went on there.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 15 Apr 2024 07:59

Good morning all. Wet here and very windy but 8 degrees so not too cold. Although the forecast did say there would be a wind chill. I thought we were moving forward with some nice weather over the weekend. Although the promised 'mini heatwave never did materialise here. so an indoor day today, no gardening.

Thank you for that Ann I didn't know about not having dairy after the iron tablets and what do I have after taking them .....a coffee ,it also says on line about avoiding grains and we have the seeded bread for toast at breakfast and that's buttered so thats dairy .
I do take them with orange juice as the doc said it helps to break them down but I will stop the dairy now so thanks for telling me .
It's still early days really I haven't had the tablets for two weeks yet and I have to take them for three months so its going to be a while before I notice a difference and hopefully with no dairy that should help.

I had a look in the garden and I have a lovely lot of Lily of the valley this year they have really spread out well.
There is a couple of buds on the pink rose and I have some poppy's in flower so a little bit of colour .
The trees are now beginning to turn green we usually look each morning at the trees and can really see them turning green .

If I disappear suddenly it will because I have failed to renew. It is driving me mad. I can't find where to change my credit card details, even though they have sent me am email telling me to go yo the secure payment. Which I did but it is all about taking on new membership I cannot find a mention of renewing.

I have done a couple of hours out in the garden cutting back a large bush (bridal veil) and clearing out some ferns in pots. Then sadly I have had to break up the little plant table I have had on the lower patio for quite a few years as It was rotten and when I knocked it, it was obviously unstable. So I had to empty it of all the earth, luckily only one plant in it, then take it all apart. Took about half an hour to do that. The sun is warm and Alexa says it is 13 degrees, but when I walked down to Irene;s earlier with some stuff there was a bitterly cold wind.

Afternoon All,

Yes I'm ok folks. I did a post last night, but OH came in 4 times and interrupted me with different things and I ended up losing the lot with this new layout so gave up then.

I slept well last night which is good and woke to a lovely sunny day. I still seem to feel tired with no energy though. I had my two annual blood tests yesterday and I suspect my thyroid meds will need increasing as I've put some of the 3 stones I lost back on again. Tiredness is one of the signs. There was a lovely old chap with a stick and about my age waiting ahead of me at the reception at the surgery. We were having to queue again as the self booking in screen wasn't working. He said 'good morning' to me and looked very smart. Although I stood well back I could hear the receptionist ask him when he was born and he said 1931 !! Crikey, that made him age 93-94 which I would never have guessed. :-0 Yet again, despite it being in my notes I am allergic to the adhesive, the nurse tried to put cotton wool and a plaster on my arm.

A big bundle of our post came yesterday including OHs bone scan appointment this week. Luckily they had texted it a few days ago and he can get it done between two of his meetings on the same day.

Mandy as lack of iron can cause your symptoms and levels take a while to normalise I suppose it's why your GP wants you to come back after 3 months. I'm sure you do, but be careful to avoid dairy for a while before and after taking them. Like with my thyroid tablets the cacium lessens the absorbtion and it's easy to forget about the milk in tea and coffee. You'll no doubt see your GP if it gets worse though. It's a nuisance for you when you are keen to get on with things and catch up with planting things.

AnnG I think many others would have paid the rest of the bill in your shoes after the workmen had been so good, as it can help them purchase materials etc when other people are slow payers. I suppose they have a lot of work coming in now gardens are growing, but it's poor that they seem to be difficult to contact now and it won't help them be recommended to other customers.

You all seem to be getting some sort out and clear out jobs done and I should make a start in the bedroom as I didn't do it last year. I do have half a black sack full of things I've put aside for the charity shop so aught to sort enough to fill it so I can take it.

Mel all I've done is give the taps a good clean and cook lunch. Now I'm waiting for the food drop with 3 subs that will be ok.

I wonder how Vera got on with the meeting and 'name'.

I agree with Anng Mandy go back to the doctors this is'nt doing you any good.

One lot of washing on the line and another lot nearly finished. If I wash when the suns out I don't use any leccy. The second lot is all my fleeces so they should dry quickly.

Done a little modeling this morning too. I am trying to make joints of meat in polyclay.

Morning all,

When I turned the pc on it was 9 degrees and now it says 8 degrees. Its bright over the back to the south but to the north there is a great big grey clouds and beneath it is a sriped blue and white sky. Very strange.....

Ache a bit this morning but at sometime I have to pick up all the cutting from yesterday and take them over the bonfire.

No callers today so I can please myself what I do and when I do it.

Love to our Mandy and hope the pills are working and she is more comfortable now. Its not nice being dizzy. <3

Good morning all looks like it might be a nice day but still only 6 degrees/ light blue sky with white fluffy clouds. Nothing at all planned for today, so maybe some more garden pottering.

Mel, goodness you were out in the garden until late. I can never do that, you must be fitter than you think.

No Ann yesterday, hope she is OK.
