Frozen solid here, refuse/recycling suspended. A few flakes gently falling but the sky does look full of it.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 20 Dec 2010 11:51

No new snow since Saturday down near this part of Channel coast.

Main roads OK, but side roads are mostly untreated and treacherous.

Sun shining and thawing compacted snow on pathway, so I've just easily cleared a walk way to the front door.

-3.2 here this morning, no snow, but looks as if some imminent. Birds are feeding like mad. OH has just gone out to get a few last minute food items just in case. Must have enough tins for the cats.

Temp around 9:30pm was -5C when my son went home about 10 miles away they have a 4 wheel drive so should be OK, all the family were here for hubby's birthday celebration held early as he should be at work on Wednesday on late shift at Heathrow if he can get in.

DIL said ther is more snow forecast so will see how it goes.

Take care everyone

Glad your son was safe Kemp. No doubt you will want to stay at home for a while

AnninGlos Report 19 Dec 2010 20:13

Thanks Kemp I am sure it wasn't. So thoughtless of people but no doubt they had been driving so long theyw ere exhausted. And I suppose the police couldn't get there anyway. Glad he was safe anyway. My Grandson is due to drive back from Uni in Plymouth this week to hampshire and is already trying to work out the right day. All very well for police to say don't drive unless necessary but they just want to get home for Christmas don't they?

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 19 Dec 2010 19:36

my son got stuck on M40 yesterday and just got home today

He said at about 8pm people were parking on the hard shoulder and bedding down for the night !!! It took him 5 hours to do 13 miles but he kept going and get to a friends for the night .
He said it was very dangerouse coz people just stopped and bedded down ignoreing that fact that they were moving be it slow .......
so he said it wasnt just the lorries causing problems

Jean (Monmouth)

Jean (Monmouth) Report 19 Dec 2010 19:07

-4.1 here at 7pm No snow today but frosty. Hope it stays like this for the rest of the week.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 19 Dec 2010 16:46

Gwyn and the annoying thing is that a lot of these road closures have been caused by lorries jacknifing or getting stuck. Maybe they should be told to slow down in bad conditions.
