Helen in Kent Report 8 Dec 2010 01:20

Annina!

Foxes chewed through my friend's wire chicken pen yesterday and killed two of her hens.

We do not feed foxes here, they murder our chooks Have to say, I have only lost two pets this year, I am very careful, thank heavens. And their pen has very heavy-duty wire.

The snow has virtually gone on the Kent/East Sussex border, although there is a heavy frost tonight. I don't ever want to see a snow-flake again.

Oh Ann G G~~

Are you originally from around Abergavenny.?

I was brought up 6 miles from there, in Clydach, between Aber and Brynmawr. Lived there til I married, now live near Ebbw Vale.

But spent loads of my summer holidays with my cousins in Aber ( very close family )

Hope you can come to the mini Aber meet:))

Here in Sheffield very cold and still icy underfoot. My poor foxes are having to try to eat frozen chicken that I put out for them. Hasten to add that I do cook it for them, but by the time they come to retrieve it,well................ !

I had a weeks worth of post this morning, and my Daughter still not recieved a cheque that I posted over a week ago,if it dosn't arrive tomorrow I will cancel it and get the money to her by other means.

Correct me if wrong, but when first husband was laid of from the building site due to adverse weather,I am sure that he was expected to clear snow for his dole money, why don't they do that now?

Has anyone any idea what I could feed the foxes and badgers that won't freeze?

We were in Aber yesterday, and it was cold but not too unbearable. The gents toilets were locked by the Fairfield car park and the ladies were the worst state I have ever seen them, but open. Here today have had some sun, but frost still holds. My outdoor thermometer a foot from my dining room window says -4C. It will be colder in the garden.

Oh my gosh Linda, you are basking in warmth .

Still well below freezing here S Wales.. not going out to check tho !
Dau's gone to Bristol shopping, I'm rather concerned about her being so far away at this time of night.
I always had emergency equipment in my car., first aid box, blanket , collapsalble shovel ( my dear dad bought me ) wellies, newspapers or towels for any snow,to put under the wheels.
She used to drive my car but took out my 'emergency box' when we bought her her own ( My car went in part ex for hers )
Can't afford 4 cars in the family, think of the carbon footprint !!

Envious of Linda.lol

It was -8°C again this morning (North East), massive icicles everywhere.

We had more snow last night, but not as much as we've been getting for the last 2 weeks.

No gritters been anywhere near us and no bin-men yesterday.

Hi Linda~~
I don't know if if the same person but I heard about a man having a heart attack clearing the snow.
My dad died when he was 90 and he had marvellous neighbours, I used to phone every day and I'd tell him not to go out in the snow and certainly not to attempt to clear it. A few elderly peeps in my home village died whilst clearing snow :((((
We had his dog (Ii'd rather call him mine) as I got him from the rescue centre for him when my mum died, and dad couldn't walk him for the last few yrs of his life. Sandy the dog, died a yr after my dad, hence my name.lol
God bless these elderly who have no friends or family that can help them in this weather.
