You may have put them in a little early Puss, but don't worry about it ,leave it a few more days and put some new ones in .
If you have overwatered ,the seedlings will more than likely wilt and go a very light green,,you will get there ,trial and error are a great teacher. :-) :-)

Merlin Report 31 Mar 2012 13:48

Stray, one thing they have all forgotten to tell you, when you see the first green shoots coming into view, you should play them "Greensleves" as often as possible(Never Sing It) and they will get healthier every day.

badger Report 31 Mar 2012 09:46

Thank's for that Lesley ,that does make sense in a way ,lol, most of these old sayings have countryside roots ,anyway ,it always stood me well.
I have been out in the greenhouse this morning putting more seeds in ,two different sorts of cabbage ,broccoli, and perpetual spinach.and checked on my Tomatoes in their pots ,two sorts ,money maker ,& sugar plum ,a small tomato of the bush variety. both varieties just showing ,and there is plenty of time to replace any that don't come through.
Nothing i can do in the garden today because it is piddling down ,typical Easter weather ,darned chilly up here too ,but that's to be expected ,i noticed the clouds were being driven down from the north so there is a slight chance of a few snow flurries as well.
Away now to get the dinner started ,a nice leg of lamb for the grandson ,he being sick to death of chicken ,after chewing on it every main meal for six months ,lol,he says the lads out there are spitting feathers before the first two months are out :-). Fred.

Stray, don't let people teasing put you off lol...

I find some words of encouragement to plants always works, my mum always did it when planting anything, & my friend does it to her house plants and I have never seen anything grow like they do lol. :-D (just make sure the neighbours aren't listening otherwise you will get labelled as 'odd' lolol.)

K Report 30 Mar 2012 18:28

Puss

Good luck with your peach tree. Ours is about 12 years old and beside a west facing wall of a pole barn It really cheap in a sale and I never thought it would fruit and we would be still eating them out of the freezer

I used to sow our sweetcorn straight into the bed and cover with a fleece, but a cold wet spring a few years rotted all but twelve off so I resorted to germinating them inside.

Hi Fred
I've always been led to believe Ne'er cast a clout till May is out means, don't take your jumpers/woollies (clout) of until the May flower is in bloom.

badger

badger Report 30 Mar 2012 16:03

Don't water anything in bright or hot sunshine Stray ,the cold water will scorch the leaves and may kill the seedlings ,you stick to your sensible regime and water early brfore the sun gets up properly, good on yer Fred. :-D
