Not quite on topic, but my late Mum (b 1915) lived with an Auntie (b 1866) in the 1940's. Auntie used to talk about 'Aunt Musson from Harley St'. Eventually I found Aunt Musson, she was actually great Aunt Musson 1806-1883. That's a lot of years of memory being covered. |

My grandmother....Florence Maria..born 1865..died 1948.......My parents went to Hull in Yorkshire and took me wiith them..and I had no idea where we were going or why...........We arrived at this house with all the curtains drawn..and full of mystery people dressed entirely in black.......I later learnt that they were pretty well all late Victorian siblings of Florence or of my grandfather Walter..both of whom were from huge families......there was a girl there Shirley..who turned out be be my first cousin..born on exactly the same day as i was..(She is now in Australia..still living..like me!!! lol)......those were the days when children were seen and not heard, and we were thrown out of the house.....and we chatted and eventually swore undying love to each other and promised to get married as and when (we were both ten years old)............at some point i was called back into the house to meet this oldest relative of mine.......was ushered (alone) into this darkened room..and could just about distinguish a figure lying on the bed....................which then, very loudly......broke wind!!!!!!!.........I think i ran screaming all the way back home from Hull to York..........yes.I mmet my oldest relative as a decomposing corpse!! |

My great grandmother, born 1858 died aged 92 in 1950, I was 11 and saw her 3 times a week. She used to sing songs to us and we fetched her a jug of beer from the pub and she let us clean out the tin of sweetened milk which she called swiss milk. She had willow pattern plates and could ,in rhyme tell us the story of the figures on the plates. She would not use the new fangled flush toilet but loved her wooden seated earth closet, it was one that had another hole so if you wanted you could sit side by side. Lovely lady. :-D. Elaine. |

My g.grandmother was born in 1873. One of her daughters (my father's aunt) had a baby girl late in life which made her only a year older than me. I have a photograph taken in 1949 of me (aged 6 months) and my father's cousin (? my 2nd cousin) aged 18 months with a lady aged 76 who was my g.grandmother and yet her grandmother. |

I apparently met my Great Uncle David who was born in 1872 although I don't remember. I also met my Great Aunts and I have a birthday card from them written in the most beautiful handwriting. They were born in 1880 and 1882. |
