just because:

Do you ever wonder what your ancestors would make of you if they could read this board? Would you be a 'chip off the old block', would they be surprised, scandalised or proud? Would they be glad you had achieved so much more than they did in terms of education or general ' stepping up a notch' socially or financially? or would you be a disappoinment lol.

Well if showing an ankle was scandalous in the good old days, probably my ancestors would have the vapors lol ! ;-)

I have such diverse ancestors think it would be difficult to imagine just what they think.
Some would probably think I am doing well, independent with my own house, then again others would probably say, Just like his grand father, always down the pub :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D.
I was a disappointment to my ex, so probably a disappointment....LOL. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

I think my nan would have been fairly outraged at my lack of cooking skills lol, and she would also probably say, 'you're just like your mother' :-D

Oh I don't know Mildred, I have two pictures that used to hang in my grandmother's house, and they are of ladies with a breast uncovered :-D

Think mine would be amazed I had so much time to waste. Computers and time saving equipment like microwaves and dishwashers, and lower working hours and more holidays mean that we have loads of spare time.

We can lie on settees in front of the fire contemplating our navels and eating grapes, just like citizens in Greece all those years ago. And that was where many of the great ideas we admire today came from :-) :-)

My mum would be horrified (not a word she ever used) she would call it airing your dirty laundry in public :-0

I'm a 'chip off the old block' Rose as far as my father is concerned, but, thankfully, I also have the far more 'gentle' side of my lovely mum (I hope!) <3

I think my Mum would be proud of me - as for my Dad, who cares!

I loved my paternal grandmother more than anyone and I would like to think she is proud of me and what I achieved (bless her, teaching me to play Canasta when I was 11 years old whilst puffing smoke all over me - I've forgotten how to play Canasta, but . . . . . :-(

Canasta!!! Wend, that was sooo popular then. I used to go on holiday when I was about 7 or 8 with my grandma and we used to stay with her two cousins who were both quite wealthy. These 3 old ladies (70+ but seems positively ancient in those days) used to get the canasta out after tea and I made up a fourth.

I can't remember how to play either, but seem to remember you could call "misere" if you thought you could lose all 13 tricks.

All I remember is the maid bringing in a pot of tea, pouring it into our bone china cups and leaving a trolly of potato scones and jam tarts before she retired to her rooms in the attic and the intense pressure I was under not to play the wrong card :-D :-D

Amazing what a leveller this family historuy is. I notice on another thread that someone had a "gateway ancestor" (hope that is right. Someone about 1600 who had a 1000 year pedigree back to Normandy barons.

Got one or two famous ones, but most of mine appear ordinary at first glance - usual factory and ag labs, farmers and blacksmiths. But not so ordinary when you dig deeper.

I often meet some 13th cousins one removed on my main line. Our mutual ancestor was born about 1520 and died 1592 and was a farmer in Shropshire. We look similar (sandy hair, quite tall, blue eyes, very attractive). Quiite intelligent, I think. We have the same sense of humour (very sarcastic). We fall about at jokes that no one else understands. And we tend to be interested in similar things (like politics and religion) and can discuss our very differing views about politics and religion without anyone getting upset. :-D

My grandparents on one side were Brethren, so they would probably be horrrified by my life!

I would tell them about the other side of the family....... I'm descended from a Bishop and his mistress!
