Potatoes and other root veg have really hiked in price over the last week or so. Bought a tiny swede on Saturday for 75p - but I can't deprive Hubby, he loves them.
Pasta with roast turkey and all the trimmings for Christmas lunch?

Julia

Julia Report 12 Nov 2012 15:15

Iris, glad you have come on board. If I make your Shortbread recipe now, can I freeze it until Christmas.

I paid £1.48 for a Celariac, last Friday. Price of veg is getting quite ridiculous.

Thanks

Piglets Pal, I know all about crop failures. We have an allotment, so rely on it's produce to feed us.

Wonders if it is becuase it is Christmas, they are using it as an excuse to increase the price.

Globally many crops have in the last few years been affected by the changing weather.

You only have to look to the US and their wheat crops etc., and India/China for the rice.

And here in the UK many root vegetable crops have been seriously affected by the horrendous rain we have had over the summer.

dried fruit, and nuts, come to think of it, for backing.
It is outdacious. It will soon be too expensive to make your own cakes etc.
