Yesterday I asked a friend of ours who works in the Fire Service if we could obtain a couple of smoke detectors. He's the father of two of dtr's previous football team mates and a really nice guy. Our autistic son thinks the world of him and is very comfortable around him.

When I got home tonight I had an e-mail to say if he was passing he would drop the smoke detectors in. I figured that he must be off out somewhere. Silly me :-D

So a few minutes ago, daughter says asks me if that's a car pulled up outside. I say it can't be and must be a lorry because I can see two amber lights on the side and a car would just have one. Then the doorbell rings and the penny drops. Open the door to get hug from hunky firefighter who is doing his Station Officer duties at our local station this evening. We all go outside and son is straightaway allowed into the cabin. He's chattering away with the guys and lass in the cab and dtr is invited to climb in too. Hubby makes the joke "using the company vehicle tonight?" We had chatted for a few minutes and a call came through which meant that they had to leave quickly. We even got the flashing blue lights and a claxon-horn as they left.

It's lovely to have friends and lovely that they make something just a bit special for you. Now. What would be really cool is for them to 'drop in' on some lovely summer evening when all the neighbours and their kids are outside. Imagine the cudos having friends who drop in by fire engine. :-D :-D :-D

how lovely for you and your boy - bet he's on cloud nine now - do these firemen live anywhere near me? I already have a smoke detector, but I'll keep quiet about that :-D

The first time I saw him in his uniform was when we were at a safety event where he is based. When he came over to greet us he really hammed it up. Greeted me as 'Darling' and hubby as 'Sir'. I'm afraid that I was very naughty but some of his colleagues were in earshot so I entered into the spirit of the greeting. I told him that he looked very manly and very hunky in his uniform. He's just one of the good guys and you'd trust him straightaway. :-D

My Dad was a bus driver. One morning, not long after first husband and I were first married, my Dad popped in for a cuppa. He was on the school run and was running early. We lived in a side street off the main road, all terraced houses. The double decker was parked outside our house :-0.

Didn't mind though because he gave me a lift to work :-D

A Lovely story, I can imagine how thrilled your son must have been. Well done to your friend, our firefighters do a wonderful job.
