I am visiting my son in Channel Islands.
He is a captain with the airline and I was taken to airport by daughter and s.i.l on Weds morn...rush hour...accident...panicking as hate to be late ...called son just as he was landing...don't worry ,will get you through.
Got there straight to info...2 police there said ..well take you through to security this quick there bags through.Son said don't open hold ...bag straight to cabin.

Now,in my bag I had a small penknife which is a collectors item for my grandson, and because it wasn't in the hold I was questioned, knife confiscated and delayed the plane for about 20 mins while policewoman went out to plane, talked to my son and he had to make an announcement to the other passengers explaining the delay..and not mentioning I was his mum...just an elderly lady...and they all said...ahhh.
Escorted by 2 police on the Tarmac to the plane...did I feel a fool!!

Oh well ..who says you don't have adventures when you're old!!

It just goes to show...

It's not what you know, it's who you know ;-)

Pity about the penknife - it would be helpful if they had padded envelopes available at security so that you can post banned items back to yourself.

After the excitement, make the most of your visit with your family

As long as your son still loves you Brenda!! :-D

I hope you have a lovely time.

AnninGlos Report 16 Nov 2012 15:50

Shame about the penknife and obviously not your fault as you were not to know the bag wouldn't be in the hold. And it would have been much more embarrassing if they'd said it was the Captain's Mother. I bet you kept your head down once on board!! :-D Enjoy your stay.

i cannot see why some common sense can't be used in cases like this, simply passing the item to a member of the crew bearing in mind that the pilots cabin is locked on most flights these days would be a more sensible action than delaying the flight.

When we went for a "flight" on the London Eye we were informed that penknives, scissors and metal nail files are prohibited. I suppose they are worried someone will hijack it, cut it loose and roll of to the Dover ferry!

Best wishes

Mayfield, I didn't realise that. You live and learn.
