I agree with you, Kay. My Dad has talking books , as he can't see to read any more. He was reluctant to try them, but finds that the readers really bring the tales to life, and he finds them a great way to pass the time.

Kay????

any books been published of the place where she was born or lived in as a child?

talking books are great, and if you nod off in the middle of a story its just a matter of replay button, they are great for long stays in during winter, with well known voices from TV and Radio.

Mildred I have thought about talking books, she loves TV and radio............

I saw Susan Boyle singing from her latest CD on TV for Childen in Need very nice. I will be visiting her tomorrow, so will drop a few hints.

Some years ago I bought my then elderly mil a collection of cards of all sorts- notelets, birthday cards for men, birthdays for women, blank ones etc. and put them in a pretty box with a load of postage stamps and a nice ball point pen. She was really pleased as she loved to remember everyone's birthdays etc. but couldn't always get out herself to buy cards and stamps.

AnnG I have brought her so many CDs I can't remember what I have brought, but I know I have brought her Susan Boyle.

Maggie G. You have reminded me of another Aunt whom I adored, she used to buy me the strangest presents, I am smiling here thinking of when she brought me four of the seven dwarfs they stood three foot high, I never liked to ask what happened to the other three. My friends were always eager to find out what Aunitie had brought me. God Bless her <3

By the way. My Mother was one of eighteen children and my Father was one of twelve, so as you can imagine a huge family tree. <3 <3 <3

Or, how about a large photo frame with a montage of her family members/ancestors.

does your Aunt listen to music Paula? Has she got the means of playing CDs? If so there is a new Susan Boyle CD out.

My dear Aunt is a quite gentle soul, a bit timid, and reserved, but does have a good sense of humour and loves to talk about the past and our family. She is taking a great interest in my research on GR. I take her out to lunch and my Uncle (her younger brother) takes her out too. My cousin stays there most of the time, so she is never lonely. Years ago my Aunt liked to knit and crochet, and when she lived in a house she loved gardening. She is not really fit, unfortunately she has suffered a series of medical problems and has had number of falls over the last few years. Today she is in hospital for the day to have cataracts removed, hopefully this will give her some confidence. I believe health plays a major part in the way we live our lives. I have a cousin who is the same age as my Aunt, she is fit and well and has boundless energy. She went off yesterday alone to join a cultural coach trip around Italy, it was her 75th birthday present to herself. My gift to her was so easy, a lovely big Tote bag very trendy and she loved it. Thank you for all your suggestions I am working on them.

What sort of person is your aunt Paula? I have friends in their early seventies and I know I wouldn't have any problem buying them a gift because I know what each of them likes?

Chris what a fab idea ,I am sure your friend will love it, I know I would., however I am not too sure it would be right for my Aunt. I might see if she can put an indoor shrub by her front door.

I know as we reach mid sixties we are difficult to buy for, we usually have all we want and if not we go get it! Since in the past years I have become even less mobile I am told by all and sundry I am a nightmare.

However I have just ordered a gift voucher for a 78yr old friend to a Beauty Salon.
You could do the same for Auntie, she could have a facial/manicure/pedicure/massage - all types. A bit of pampering never hurt anyone and she would feel so good afterward!

Had to laugh at Ann's ..liver...know what she means about iPad changing words..you have to check a lot as it catches you out.
Hang on girls...Im 77 but feel 50 and some of the suggestions seem as if for old people!!
I'd appreciate something for my iPad or a jazzy scarf..a plant rather than flowers that have to be arranged..maybe a nice poinsetta .cinema ticket....probably I'll get body lotion and an ornament!!

My daughter is getting her grandad a food hamper. She is making it up herself buying all his favourite foods and sweets etc. A lot of the stuff is from M&S which he likes but cannot afford very often, so he will love it. Only thing is, thats what I usually do for him so any ideas for my 83 year old dad who doesnt smoke or drink.

Sylvia :-)
