Actually you are right 74 is not old. I have another cousin who is the same age as my Aunt but they are light years apart in terms of attitude and both physical and mental strength. |

How about adopting an animal from one of the wild life charities that will send her photo's and newsletters....Or even a local Zoo if you have one? |

How about something personal and nostalgic, like a framed copy of her family tree, or incorporated into an album with photographs? |

She has recently moved to a new apartment block with a beautiful communal garden, I asked her if I could buy her a shrub or plant for the area around her apartment near to her window but she said it is not allowed. I see her regulary and we go shopping and out for lunch/tea afterwards. She always insists on paying it is so lovely she makes me feel like a little girl. She used to knit and crochet and has tried and failed on many occasions to teach me without succcess., but does not seem to do so much now. Thank you, you have given me some food for thought. |

I am only two years younger (ooh hate the term elderly). I appreciate anything I am bought but actually like gift tokens for garden or M&S. books are difficult as you don't know what she has read but a book token maybe? Scented candles if you know she likes them. But a small hamper, maybe a small bottle of liver if she drinks alcohol. Hamper with all special things. |

Paula, are you anywhere the West Midlands? I'm just south of Birmingham. I'm beginning to make all sorts of gifts from odds and ends and when I have enough I will be having a craft stall. Would your lovely aunt like some drinks coasters made from unwanted 4" x 4" bathroom tiles which I've decorated? They aren't the sort of thing I put in the post because of weight and fragility. |
