Wend You are sooo polite. I gave you a chance to kick me in the (net?) and you passed. Hope you are happy this morning. I am 66 as well with no silver, and I also have a very young and attractive OH. What have we done to deserve such luck? :-D :-D

Wend Report 28 Nov 2012 00:17

Thanks, John, nothing more than my 66 year old fella, still tall, dark (with a touch of silver) and handsome, can't do ;-)

The idea of calling local Vicars "Bishops" was quite a serious suggestion. That might be an easy way for the C of E to get round this lost vote and immediately make sense of current situation.

In Biblical terms, a "Bishop" is the local man or woman ( the LDS Church has their structure Biblically correct). And that would mean that local PCCs would be forced to vote out their local female Bishop. And that would not happen!!

At present, we have "bishops" (job titles Vicar and Rector) reporting to senior "bishops" (job title Bishop). Men and women occupy these bishop roles but only men bishops can become senior bishops - women are barred.

Think I have made a valid point and suggested a way out of this impasse. It won't make any difference tio churchgoers if their Vicar is suddenly called the Bishop of Wellington or the Bishop of Cowbridge. Nor if the Bishop of Cowbridge reports to the Senior Bishop of Llandaff
:-)

Wend You sound a bit tired and grumpy :-S

What can I do to make you happier?

Wend Report 27 Nov 2012 21:07

Any odd jobs to do round the house John, few jobs perhaps in the garden - surely there must be something, or someone, in your life to take your mind off these things that seem to preoccupy your life full-time at present?

JohnLovesHorlicks

JohnLovesHorlicks Report 27 Nov 2012 20:06

Agree with that, Brian. Scriptural objections should have been conceded when female were allowede to be ordained some years ago.

The role as laid out in the Bible for both Vicars and Bishops is referred to by Paul as "Bishop". Just that one has managerial responsibilities in the C of E hierarchy (and a prettier frock and hat) as well as pastoral care:-D

Why don't they change the job title of Vicars and Rectors to Bishop? And then above them have Senior Bishops and, at the top, Principal Bishops? Keep REv, Rt Rev, Most Rev. Even have stripes and pips to show rank and seniority.

Then try telling some parishes that they have to let their Bishop go because she is female and Bishops have to be male. Now that would bring more people back to church :-D :-D

If you accept vicars in knickers
You can't exclude Bishops in bras.

Looking forward to the new Archbishop meeting the Most Revered Lady of the Pingu Faith. Kissing each other's rings in ecumenism :-D Mutual aim of world peace and everlasting happiness, no pain and no death.

Hope she looks aftre the bishops - particularly you Eldrick. She should give you and Island a ring ;-)

ps Spent all evening discussing the Second Coming of Christ (cross reference Pingu Compendium Book of Stan Chapter 57). It says the scientists will pretend they have sorted everything out, but eventually they cry and scream and the Lord Jesus returns to collect his supporters who include a rebel called Eldrick (who finally admitted that his favourite scientists hadn't got too much of a clue). ;-)

Eldrick Report 26 Nov 2012 19:02

Lady of the land is higher than a bishop. More of an archybishop to be honest.

You may have several gold rings and a large sombrero with glitter on it. Plus a stick with a sardine on the end and a nice bar stool with tinsel round it. Oh, and a packet of magic quavers.

Bleth you again my thithter.

Eldrick, you may be interested to know a new Hendrix album is being released 1Q next year - tracks he had written for an album before his death - a new album had been planned but never materialised, for obvious reasons. 2013 will see it released.

I wasted 15 minutes of my life on that!

Chief most revered lady of the land, is that like a bishop? :-D :-D

Can I wear a special hat can I, can I?

Do I get a gold ring, do I, do I?

Do people have to kiss it, do they, do they?

That was 15 minutes well spent then ;-)
