Jax - Just read the updated thread, and was thinking exactly the same.

It does seem stoopid in the circumstances; Tracy would be able to send her nicely laundered one to back up the need for a replacement. We probably all realise the reasoning is to avoid identity fraud, but if they wanted the parents dob, you'd have thought they'd also want a copy of their BCs. :-S

Anyway, have a lovely holiday. Just make sure you send us a postcard :-D

So you give your parents dates of births....what are they checking it against? Surley the passport office dont have a record of their births or are they going to obtain the certs themselves to make sure you are telling the truth?

Even if you gave a date of birth which you thought was correct, there is no guaranteeing it was as not everyone told the truth about their age

Thank you so much for your responses and suggestions. I spoke to the passport advice line 3 times and they were absolutely adamant that my parents' details must be completed. Apparently, even though I'm applying for a replacement passport, because the original is classed as damaged, they say they'd have to retrieve the info manually if I'm unable to supply it which would take more time than I have!

Anyway, after a couple of frantic emails to my only remaining relatives in New Zealand, I managed to get enough info to track down my parents' death certificates on this website which showed their dates of birth. My passport application went off yesterday, so hopefully I will be spending Christmas in Thailand!

Again, thank you for your support. I wouldn't have got to this stage without your help.

Seriously they only want a DOB

You have an idea of how old they were when they died, you probably know the dates they celebrated their birthdays

Do what I and many others do guess..... I would not worry.


I know that on many different application forms that have required this info, my parents years' of birth vary by about 5 years.

Standard delivery (approx 4 working days before despatch 2nd class post) costs £9.25 per certificate.

In your circumstances, it might be better to pay for the Express delivery c£20 each.

Are you sure you need to fill in their dob? You are asking for a replacement; you're not a new applicant!

Depending on their years of deaths look them up to see it they fell within the registration when birth dates were put.........the dates of births are as good as the informant knew,,,but recent years a birth certificate also has been required,,,,,,one for my parent needed to be shown.!

Think you will only find that info from their birth certs Unless you find their deaths and their dates of birth are on the indexing

Hi folks,

I'm supposedly travelling to Thailand in 4 weeks time and have accidently put my passport in the wash. The passport office have advised me to get a replacement, but on the form, it asks for my parents' dates of birth which I don't have (they both passed away years ago). I've managed to find a record of their marriage on the Genes Reunited website, but can't track down their dates of birth. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
