hello. we are new to this and we would appreciate any help..... on my mothers parents wedding certificate it states that her father was a widower, how can we find out who he was married to before? many thanks

Can you give some details, please?
Or could you repost this in Find Ancestors, as you are in General Chat which is more for talking about anything and everything.

First of all you should look through the marriage index for any marriages for the same name as your mother's father. See if there are any marriages in the same area as he married his second wife - although obviously he could have married anywhere.

If you find a marriage that seems likely you then need to look at deaths for his surname and the first name of the person he married - this would need to be at a time between the two marriage dates.

You could always ask for help on the Find Ancestors board..

thanks to everyone for your replies I will try the find ancestors board, sadly patchem, that is not the right phelps..... his name was Edward Charles phelps born 1916 in gloucester

Sorry, confusing ages of mother and grandparents.
If I have the correct marriage now, it occurred very close to your Mother's birth?
