Hello again GP. Actually, I rarely get to visit Tyneside these days. Last time was in June to see Mumford and Son (see post 13 Dec 19:34), and I only have a few relatives left in the area.It really does sadden me to see the old town, and hope they will be able to rejuvenate it: the high street is a real mess!
Never actually been to Curley's Bar - Doesn't look like my cup of tea, I have to say!
These days, I'm happy to live in the Norfolk woollybacks, where the natives are less crazy. :-D

Robert - You're probably right about the Bigg Market - The Quayside pubs and Osborne Road, Jesmond seem to be the "in places" for young people at the moment but quite expensive - Not keen on the Gate I'm afraid, maybe its because of my age.
GinN - Curleys bar is still open so I've been told but I don't think you would like the place anymore - with the re-developement of Gateshead town centre taken place I have a feeling it will be demolished in due time.

The Bigg Market is not as good as it used to be.

Posh Geordies go to The Gate!!!

GinN Report 13 Dec 2012 22:47

What! No Curly's! My Great Great Grandad used to run that pub, I think it was called The Phoenix then. Hey, should we buy it? We could invite all our GR friends to a lock in :-D :-D :-D

GinN - I have a feeling Curly's has closed but the Bigg market is sill thriving so when you return bring your large Norfolk bag full of money and we will hit the town Geordie style.

Ah! GP, you are making me homesick. Oh for a Satuday night out in Bigg Market, or a session in Curly's Bar on Gateshead High Street! :-D :-D

Hi GinN - Just got back from the soup kichen in Newcastle after meeting some of my homeless friends and I've noticed people are still trying to have a go at us lovely Geordies. Don't they realise we are not all football supporters but admirers of the arts especially that lad who produces a masterpiece on the pave stones in Newcastle using coloured chalk provided by the local shops free of charge. Then there's the Geordie Pensioner from Gateshead who cannot sing but sings his heart out for charity in the main metro station. These are the Geordies I really admire and I would like to be considered their friends. Hic Hic is there any Brown Ale left.

Believe me, the Geordies I was surrounded by at a Mumford and Son concert in Gateshead were anything but cool, and no-one mentioned football. I was glad to get out alive ! :-0

Well, I go out for a few hours, and find you've all been rattling on!
Good job Geordies can take a joke, exept when they've had too many pints of Newky Broon, then it's time to run for it .

Luv yas all, Hinnies. :-D :-D :-D :-D
