That has given me more food for thought. Thank you Rollo. I only really need to scan up to A4 and don't want anything too bulky, so am beginning to like the idea of the A3 printer, maybe with a seperate scanner, or hang on to the old E*son I have for scanning and put it under the desk. Decisions, decisions, but it is really good to be made aware of the possibilities at this stage, before buying!!!

Thank you all for your help. :-) :-) :-)

The Canon A3 has separate ink pots. There are several models. As regards scanning the options are no scan, combined scan, separate A3 scanner. The combined A3 is bulky and expensive so I have A3 print / A3 scan as separates, as well as an A4 combo. Fits better with our workflow.

Once you have had the benefit of A3 printing it is not something you'd want to let go and given the ca$h it saves on enlargements the £ 160 for the base A3 is soon made up. The Canon A3 does A4 as well of course.

Canon print quality is, imho, difficult to beat.

Thank you Elizabeth. I'll make sure I look at the ink situation as the one I have has individual cartridges. I think I have an A*gos gift card somewhere so it will be worth me looking at theirs too......thanks for suggesting them. I'll hang on for the January sales to get one I think......but can have a good look at them in the meantime! :-D

OH has a printer scanner which he bought because of the cheaper ink - but the colours are all in one cartridge so that when one colour runs out he has to replace the lot. Not sure if that applies to all Kodak models.

A-g-s has some good offers at the moment, I have just bought me a £29.99 Canon (with an all in one cartridge!) but when reading the descriptions I wasn't looking for printing on card

Thank you Ann, I was a bit worried about what the picture quality would be with other makes as like you I had been happy with the Epson up to now (4 years old).

Rollo that is interesting as I would like to do some photo enlargements to frame as pictures as well....thanks for the comparison with the inks too.......something else to be considered the way some gobble it up!! I'm not sure it will copy and scan as well though?

Used to have an Epson (photo 200) which was (and still is), an excellent printer, now used by OH. That one must be over 6 years old now, well over. But,as you say didn't take card. Now have a Canon and the printing of photos is as good as the Epson was, very impressed with it.

I want a printer that will print, copy and scan, but I want one that will also print on thicker paper like card, to make Birthday and Christmas Cards. My current Ep*on printer won't take card or adjust for thicker paper. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced printer that will do this? :-)
