Over christmas day and boxing day we don't normally watch tv. We play board games and quizzes with the grandchildren and they have a singalong thingy (tech term) to play on the Wii which they will bring along so we can make a noise and annoy the neighbours (only joking, I like my neighbours). So I shall be playing catch up with programmes after Christmas.

I have enjoyed watching a lot of soppy Christmas films that have been on tv lately much to OH disgust :-D

Loved the Navy Lark, once went to a live performance of it on H.M.S. Ark Royal, must have been late 50s or early 1960.

Anything new on TV would make a change :-(

In additon to Hancock and the B+W Minstrels, remember listening to the 'Navy Lark' , it was always one of my favourites on radio (don't think it ever made it to TV) ..... ahh,,, "Left hand down a bit.....!" still makes me chuckle :-D

They have no television where I am going for Christmas so there will be a lot of talking, drinking and singing...oh yes and story tellling to the grandchildren :-D :-D <3

pretty sure it's a Christmas one - saw a trailer where the kids were told that if they were naughty Father Christmas would be told

Thanks Rambling Rose for letting us know "For the Love of Dogs" is coming on. I'll definitely be watching that.

Plus, Downton Abbey on Christmas Day, and Simon Cowell with the dancing dogs on Boxing Day.

will watch downton abbey, the midwives. the new snowman with dog and the wizard of oz if its on. top of the pops but not if saville is on it...

You won't see anyone dressed up as a black & white minstrel nowadays either - very un-pc, you'd probably get hauled up to the local nick!

Tecwyn, 'The African Queen' was on recently, great film :-) Happy Christmas to you also.

Stephen.... :-P :-P :-P lolol ... I think probably one of the first Christmas shows I remember seeing was 'The black and white minstrel show' ( I was VERY young!) all dressed in costumes reminiscent of the pictures that used to be on the quality street tins :-D

I'm looking forward to Downton Abbey.

Years ago I used to look forward to the Christmas day Noel Edmonds thing, and Top of the Pops, and any films that hadn't been on for the previous 10 Christmasses!
The Christmas episodes of most programmes were enjoyable. Did we have a better quality of programme then, or am I just looking back with rose tinted specs?

Being ancient I remember "Hancock's Half Hour" and in particular the television sketch with Sid James spending Christmas together.

Dave Allen was a must.

I will miss The African Queen not being on again :-D.

What are you looking forward to watching this year? what are the programmes you remember from Christmases past ( either good or bad)?

The new 'Snowman and the snowdog' is one I will watch, with tissues at the ready as per the original. Ditto re tissues for the special of 'For the love of dogs' with Paul O'Grady.

Going back to when I was young, Val Doonican was a must at Christmas, Dave Allen, Morecambe and Wise of course, and not forgetting Blue Peter lol, the wire coat hanger wrapped in tinsel with advent candles...imagine 'health and safety' allowing that now :-)
