George ... 'we knows where you lives' grrrr LOL !!

On a similar, earlier mentioned part of this thread, the retentive journalist, R Lewis (not a relation of the bad Bard) mentioned in his mythical meanderings, that the Welsh had no literary history as, for example quote Shakespear unquote. Hmmm, being a dim South Wallian with an obviously limited education then, he's never heard of the works of Taleisin ((prob couldn't pronounce the name anyway....)) - a bit before Shakers (or was it Bacon, I get confused?).

Hayley - don't u dare vanish ! Monitor and comment as applicable :-D And put the carving knife down, you'll hurt your typing wrist .....

John - well, no, you haven't answered the earlier question. Of course, you don't have to openly, but as mentioned 'Yes' , 'No' not difficult, and it doesn't apply to you anyway. Or a PM to the interested party, perhaps? I don't see the problem, to be honest.

For the originator of this 'convoluted' OP : Mae un mor wan fel un chwilio am y golau gyda llygaid ar gau.

AND actually, this doesn't break T&C's - Welsh is NOT a foreign language, according to the Laws of the UK :-D ;-) <3

Will people please apologising there is no need ;-)

Nice joke George :-D (see I can take a joke about the English) :-P :-D :-D

You miss the point, as usual, John. You say that you don't want the thread spoilt but you've already spoilt it.

Witty sarcasm never offends me, bland sarcasm is just a bore.

Sue - you're so right. I've enjoyed (and learned from) so many posts on this thread about Wales and the Welsh language, something I knew little about previously. One of my closest friends is of Welsh parentage - her maiden name was Maurice, which I gather is quite an unusual name in Wales and she's found it hard to track down her Welsh rellies because of that. Wish she'd join GR and give her input to this thread - she'd add quite a sparkle, having a great soh. I must find out where her parents lived in Wales (I only know their names as Ada and Taffy!)

It would be very difficult to extricate me from sarcasm, Gwynne. Sorry if it offends, but it is part of me. Like me or loathe me :-S

Oh!!!!!

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 17 Jan 2013 20:46

And your unnecessary sarcasm doesn't spoil the thread, John?

Sorry from me too, Sue. But motes and planks spring to mind.

Lewis the loony druid was standing outside the Spar shop when an English bloke said to him "shift over mate"
"You English have no class or love of the beauty of the Welsh language" Dr. Lewis said in his guttural welsh.
"What" said the English bloke, "what you on about"?
"You English have no love for the classics" Lewis replied,
"Like what"? replied the English bloke.
"Like say, Moby Dick" sniggered the druid.
"Don't like sex books" said the English bloke.
"Tut" said the Druid "Its not about sex, its about whales"
"Don't like the bloody Welsh either" replied the Englishman. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

JOKE :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Others will judge, Hayley :-\ :-\ :-\ Probably privately. I do hope so, as it just spoils the thread imho.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 17 Jan 2013 20:19

Alright, Sue. Answer is yes or no.

Why on earth should I answer one of this new Sylvia's questions when the one time I asked her a question (and I had been very open in answering questions from her and others) she not only refused to answer but has chased me round the boards ever since suggesting I am interested in her.

Well, I'm not of course. And I will only show her mine from now on if........

FGS a simple yes or no John would have sufficed.

Then we could have got back to languages and their origins as MrDaff and I were looking forward to that as it's something we both have an interest in as well as a few others on GR.

For the record my eldest works for Tesco in their call centre and although she can speak Welsh she doesn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not exactly something covered by the OSA.

Thank you Mr Daff for the 'gizzard worm' translation, I'm sorry I missed seeing it earlier. It was what my older brother used to say when I was a child lol, "Be good or the gizzard worm will get you!" :-)
