FGS .... this thread has had so many topics it could probably go in the Guinness Book of Records , lot's of peeps have gone off topic,

Fun tho aint it ?
Watch out for the crutch wielding person to keep you all in toe , she is a stickler for discipline ,so it's said.

Is Dermot an Irishman ? I dunno.
Is Dafydd a Welshman ?..The ones I know are , but it's not necessarily the case.

Is Dermot the one off Eggheads ? ,if so I'm going to take a lie down otherwise I may faint with excitement :-D ;-)

Who is assuming anything, AnnC? My grandma had Irish logic and she was not Irish. She was Welsh

A neighbour (Mrs Iorwerth) once asked her what she thought of Miss Meredith down the street. "What do you think of Mari Meredith, Mrs o Ceallachain?" she asked.

Grandma replied "Och, Mrs Iorwerth. Mari is only as good as she ought to be" :-S :-S

Q. Why this gives the Welsh a bad reputation. A. The late Dr Parry invented the breathalyser, an instrument of value?

Dermot? Is that an example of what is called Irish logic? :-S :-S

Dermot

Dermot Report 15 Jan 2013 17:00

Dr Tom Parry Jones OBE of Anglesey, the inventor of the electronic breathalyser died recently. (RIP).

A Welshman who produced an instrument of value for the benefit of the whole community.

Have heard that the majority of Wales will remain bilingual if the Welsh Conservatives win the next election for the Senedd. But it is planned to make some parts monolingual because of the cost of duplicating all the forms when so few people need them in both languages.

Counties and county boroughs affected initially will be Gwynedd, Ynys Mon, Conwy, Sir Gaerfyrddin, Ceredigion and Bro Morgannwg. It is planned to extend this cost saving as quickly as possible to further counties and county boroughs.

If any residents prefer to receive their documents in English or prefer an English speaking operator, that facility will still be available and will be reviewed annually according to demand and budgetary constraints.

Mr Andrew R T Farr T Davies (Leader of Welsh Conservatives) announced this plan as a desperate attempt to get anybody in any part of the principality to vote Welsh Conservative at the next election :-) ;-) The Leader of the Welsh Liberals (KIrsty Williams aged 17) said she could see pluses and minuses in the new monolingual policy.

It was Allan I was thinking of :-D :-D He seems proud to live on the edge of civilisation as we know it.

Not a goad morning here in S Wales, SueM. Too cold here, with snow likely later :-( :-(

"on the edges of civilisation as we know it" - hilarious :-D :-D It takes more than that to goad me JLC ;-)

I suppose next thread is "is it possible to be gay and Australian". Now, I have some gay friends (in a friendly sort of way) but none have been Antipodean. Not even in Starbucks.

Australia has whetted my appetite for a visit. My mum loved it when she visited one of Colwyn Bay bridesmaids about 1980 who had settled in Barwon Heads - near Melbourne, I think. And Sue Crutch, SueMaid and Allan (on the edges of civilisation as we know it) make it sound a great place. Daughter and sil are there now. 3 days in Melbourne and I think they are on an island in Great Barrier Reef as we write. So will look forward to their report :-D :-D

Nowhere approaches Wales for me, though. Would just prefer to erase 1st December till 28th Feb from our Welsh calendars :-( And the neighbours are not so nice :-(

Well done Sue , ??

She just lit the blue touch paper and stood back ;-) ;-) ;-) Good tho wasn't it :-D:-D

She was a side liner...tho credit where credit is due her half a dozen posts ;-) ;-) were well expressed and extremely eloquent , a bit difficult when you're flat on your back for half the time.

Blinking heck , Barry Island got a mention , I used to go there on Sunday school trips.

Yeah nice one Sue, bring on the next topic .

Hope your legs are going in the right direction for this forthcoming op, you don't want to end up in Bodelwyddan ;-) ;-)
Take care

Your cats ain't as daft as they look :-D

Of course you coul lob a stone through the front bedroom window....scratch that, you still won't get in ROFLMAO :-P

Sue, I'd big up Oz for you, although the supermarket layouts confused me for ages..now the markets were fantastic for fresh fish and seafood. In Sydney ate loads of it. :-)

Perth had less supermarkets but meat, fruit and veg and fish all separate. Although pricier the meat was good quality.

I'm sure it was just a little job to tide him over until he can afford a horse so he can herd the cattle and sheep. Must ask the waiter in the coffee shop if he's gay :-0
