Hi Janet,

Thank you for your reply.

The document does appear to read the 46th year of George's reign... so all numbers point toward 1806.

I would love to know who Samual Hoottell? is on the document. I know of a few family trees that contain the Abigail Knight and they all list her parents. I will look into her to a greater depth sometime soon. All my research is based around Robert Potts and Abigail Knight so she is next on my list!

I have a 4 or 5 images of headstones I took at Little Budworth of the knight family so hopefully that will put some illumination on the situation!

Thank you for all the responses... I didn't expect to get so many!

If anyone could shed light on how this Potts line relates to the line in Chester that holds the prominent names of Charles (x2), Henry and Arthur (all gentlemen of the city, JP, clerks of the peace, personal friends of Thomas Harrison and R L Stevenson, George Stevenson, dwellers of Hoole Hall, Upper Upton Hall, Watergate House, prominent solicitors, locomotive builders which now lie peace in Chester Cathedral blah blah blah) I would be much obliged.
I know we must be related somehow because my grandfathers cousin warranted a state procession funeral (black horse drawn carriage through the streets of Chester) at the Cathedral.

Being almost the last surviving male Potts of our line in Chester I would really like to piece it all together! But its no easy task!

Information only as found in familysearch

Robert Potts bachelor
23 Jul 1806
Little Budworth, Chester
Male
age: 24
Abigail Knight - spinster

Could it be that Abigail wasn't of age and Samuel Hoottell of Chester (linen draper) was her guardian . The other thing which doesn't add up is, that if this document was written in the 43rd year of George's reign then in would be 1803 not 1806.-jl

Edit :Ignore this duplicate information as I was tooooo slow in replying.

ahhh... 46th year of his reign. That's great news. Thank you!
I had 4 sons living with the parents on the 1841 census and found a parish record for another son (1813) but Ann is new to me! So thank you very much for that too!

It's great when you fill in so many blanks in one go :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Thank you for your reply. It looks like the marriage is 1754 but the bride and groom were born in 1781 and 1782, respectively!

And the quality of the image... I uploaded it to picasa and to me it looks great. But I have just logged out of google and looked at the image and it is low quality. So I guess you need a google account to see it properly.
I will find a better way of hosting it.

Many thanks

I've found a copy of the doc. on Find My Past, it seems to be a marriage licence. The dates are the 23rd day of July in the forty sixth year of the reign of George the 3rd. I googled & he became King in 1760 so its 1806 which is also mentioned..

Also on FMP Cheshire records is a notice of intended marriage dated 23/7/1806 between Richard Potts age 24 Bachelor and Abigail Knight 24 spinster.

And a third doc which is a copy of the Parish register at Little Budworth for the marriage dated 24/7/1806

Hi Richard

Even at 700 the cert. is difficult to decipher.

I see 4141 at the top, then names of your family plus a James Pope (Potts?) and the parish of Chester.

Sorry very difficult piece to read.....but our members love a challenge soo
