Congratulations on your will power over Christmas, apparently you only need 21 days of abstinence to overcome the cravings (don't know how true that is cos it never worked for me) but keep it up and you will have a happy doctor at your next visit. |

Congratulations to you, you must be very proud of yourself. I completely agree that sweet thing can be an addiction. If I have an unopened box of chocolates they can stay like that for weeks, just a box of chocolates but once I have opened them they change into delicious tempting orange creams, nut whirls, vanilla fudge etc and as soon as I eat the first one I can't stop until they are all gone!! |

Thanks everyone, really pleased with myself. Tried to cut down so many times but in a good way, this is just what I needed. Even managing to say no when people say go on just one won't harm you, they don't seem to know that one leads to two, to three, to four. So happy just now but see what tomorrow brings, been told it takes 2or 3 months for cholesterol to come down say from 7 to 6 just with diet. Just don't really want to go on any more tablets. |

Well done Marilyn, maybe your being poorly over Christmas helped dull your appetite for the sweet things. My o.h. is dreadful, even tho he is diabetic he can't say no to sweet things and buys himself biscuits etc. I have given up nagging as it doesn't make any difference, it wouldn't be so bad if he could just have an occasional biscuit but he eats three or four at a time. |

I am a chocoholic for sure, at the mo I am not even trying to give it up, I don't smoke, rarely drink, especially at home, so need something to soothe me when o.h. has been particularly awkward lol |

Well my trouble was skipping breakfast then calling at the shop when I passed at work and getting a cake, choc bar or even both. Then coming home and dipping in that irresistable box of chocs. It's an addiction but as every day passes I feel more and more happy with myself. |

I had to go to the local supermarket as o.h. left his credit card there, just took a peek at the reductions and what did I find but a pack of profiteroles for 35p and a New York cheesecake for 75p. I did give o.h. a couple of profiteroles and have eaten the rest, before I read the calorie content! Oh well, will make those and the cheesecake my last treats and try harder to ignore the goodies next time. |

Hi Ronald. .. I don't eat chocolate or sweets normally or biscuits very often the odd one dunked in my coffee. I walk a lot and generally I'm health concious. I don't eat these things because I don't buy them. I always seem to receive them for presents at Christmas and birthdays. I have considered giving them away but I always feel bad about giving away something that has been bought for me, whatever it may be. I do always offer my chocolates to anyone who visits. I have a full check up, including for diabetes, and blood analysis every year. Unfortunately or maybe that's fortunately it is soon after Christmas in January. |

Heyup Wendy- if you dont want the pressies why not tell the givers that you've been advised that for health reasons you not to eat chocs - good excuse. 2 of my cousins used to work at Cadburys factory in Brum. Nuff said! lol. Best of luck with your checkup. |

Good luck for your check up Wendy, I had the blood test yesterday, just got to wait a week to see doctor for results, but still going strong and winning. The nurse gave me a sheet with foods, to avoid, foods to eat in moderation and those I can eat plenty of. Needless to say that sweets, cakes and biscuits are on the first list lol. |

To work in Cadburys would be my worst nightmare Ron. Maybe I should become allergic to chocolate. I do have a genuine allerg to fish and nobody buys me fish for Christmas!! |

My other downfall is nuts. Used to work at rowntrees in the peanut butter department. Hundreds and thousands of peanuts coming past me on this very big belt, that was torture. Had to make sure I didn't go to work hungry!!!! |
