Ooh Barb, your poor nephew, that is such a painful cancer I believe. And then to also have to have ten teeth out. Poor man.

Anne Marie, well done, it sounds as though the dentist will look after you well.

Ann Marie I literally detested the dentist.....I have to admit I hadnt been over a year and last year I want because I new I needed something done....

I was scared rigid, and my dentist knew this, after a checkup and a few xrays he told me he had found a lump on the roof of my mouth I never knew was there, anyways he talked me through it and I was transferred to St Helens Oral surgery(Fantastic they were).....I was told there it could be cancer but I would have to have an operation to take the lump , ....Cut along story short, I eventually had to have 2 ops because they could not get it all and because where it was, right next to my nasal cavity.....Well Im glad to say it was a deep rooted cyst and yes it was uncomfortable and I thank my dentist for his noticing.......I never miss an appointment now and never will.....

I totally understand you being scared and fearful but its always better to go for checkups and maybe have a talk and tell your dentist or nurse your fears.....its amazing how they understand.......Please believe me I was a total wuss, a proper scaredy cat....

Im totall over my fear and to be honest my dentist is quite dishy lol :-D :-D :-D

Barbinsglos ,bad dentists have really been the bane of my life.I have had crowns on my front teeth since I was 16. Had lots of problems with them over the years, now have 1 crown, 3 teeth on a bridge and dentures so a real mis match.the bridge are the ones that are coming out.hopefully things will be a lot better after all this is done. :-)

my fear of the dentist, dates back to the school clinic. filling done without being numbed. they refused to see me as i could not keep still in the chair. didnt see a dentist for many years, untill after i had my first child. have allways gone for check ups since, but i still hate it. the dread of having false teeth makes me go. have to have deep a clean done at the end of the month. have bought a sonic toothbrush in the hope i dont have to have it done. have been told they clean under your gums, and isnt very nice. just typing about it makes me cringe......

I don't like going to the dentist, but make myself do it every 6 months.

I make sure I get the usual dentist.

A few years ago my dentist was ill, so a "temp" dentist was there.

He didn't read my notes and gave me a jab with stuff I'm allergic to.

Thank goodness my doctor's surgery was next door. I spent three hours in the doctors, getting blood pressure taken every 5 minutes.

I reported the idiot to the Dental Association, he was told to write me a letter of apology. He did......... stating I should have understood that HE was nervous because it was his first week as a dentist! I sent a copy of that letter to the Association. I told them he should be severely reprimanded, maybe next time he doesn't read a patient's notes he could kill them.

If you don't get your regular dentist, make sure the temp reads your notes!!

I guess that little story will make people even more scared :-(

I'm in the minority then !

I'd rather go to the dentist than the hairdressers.

Yes I had filings done with the school dentist without an injection.Just grin and bare it !

Mersey, glad your visit sorted a health problem for you :)

Jean, I'm the same as you. my fear started in infant school when i had to have a tooth out from the middle of the roof of my mouth. the dentist yanked it out without numbing it.(always knew I was a bit strange to have a tooth growing there !!!!) ;-)

Jean

Jean Report 19 Jan 2013 01:56

AnnMarieG. the tooth i had removed from the roof of my mouth, was only found when i was 26yrs old. after having xrays taken before i had wisdom teeth removed. i had that done under a g.a. thankgod. things that happen to you as a child leave you in fear the rest of your life.

If I may AnnMarie, a little update on my nephew. He had the 10 teeth out yesterday using injections. My toes have curled up just typing. Laser treatment and chemo next week.
I am beginning to feel like a complete wimp being so afraid to go.

Still trying to fathom out how a tooth can grow in the roof of one's mouth :-S
