A government warning said
anyone travelling in icy conditions should take a shovel, blankets, sleeping bag,
extra clothing (including a scarf, hat & gloves),
24 hours supply of food & drink, de-icer, rock salt, torch (with spare batteries),
safety triangle, tow rope, petrol can, 1st aid kit & jump leads..........

Amazing how they worry about car drivers but s*d the pedestrians, and/or non-drivers.

Almost every car driver is a pedestrian when they get out of their car. Pavements and local roads aren't gritted, so buses don't run - yet they make sure the park & ride keeps going.

It's my bloody council tax that pays for gritting the roads and subsidising the P & R, but as I don't drive, and live (and work) locally I can go to hell.
I certainly can't go to work, as the pavements are ice tracks and the local buses aren't running, :-| :-| :-P

i do think the sub roads should also be grited and the paths
the weathers reaaly bad here

mind we did enjoy our morning out sledging :-D :-D

As we walk along our dangerously icy pavements, in residential areas particularly, how often do we pass houses with nice clear paths and driveways, the householder having been out and cleared them?
How strange they didn't go just an extra couple of yards more and clear a bit of pavement :-|

Having lived in other parts of Europe, where snow is the norm each winter, it is also the norm for folk to clear some of the pavement in front of their property, thereby being kind to all pedestrians :-D :-D

My OH has been a delivery driver on and off for the last few years and this is the first time he has been told to pack extra clothes tooth brush ect aswell as having to carry a couple of bags of salt in the van.

The last job he had he was going to houses down country lanes and yes he got stuck a few times....but this one he only has to go to shopping centres and retail parks..cannot see him neading all this extra stuff for that.

There are no deliveries today for this company so he has had to go to the warehouse to do gritting and snow plow duties instead......we only have a light dusting of snow here, what a waste of time...but at least he does'nt loose a days pay

if you clear a pavement and someone slips and does themselves a mischief I believe the victim can sue you,probably for not doing it properly..........
if you slip on virgin icy stuff, its your own fault..........

i always clear my path and put salt down
theres a number of old people live close

and we are on the route to the shop :-D :-D

Me and my 3 siblings are (hopefully) going to Portugal at the end of the month.
Sister and I are travelling by train. I bought myself a lightweight jacket with a removable fleece just for the journey :-)
