I have just spent 20minutes on the phone to a company who Mum holds a bond with ...

They knew I was phoning on behalf of my mother I had the policy number, her address, postcode, DOB, mothers maiden name, password, and the amount invested and when.
Now whilst I appreciate that they can´t give out details of the monies etc after all a family member just may be trying to cash the ruddy thing in ! :-D. All I wanted was the forms to cash it in. (to be sent to her address) Nope they let me go through all of that just to tell me that they can´t discuss the policy with me as they don´t have permission.
Now she can phone them or write to give me permission :-S

Why didn´t I just say I was she after all I am sure I can sound 83yrs old (ruddy feel it at the moment) ;-)

A friend who had Sky wanted to cancel her contract with them. She telephoned Sky and explained that the contract was in her husbands name and that he had recently died. As it was her husband who watched the Sky programmes and not her she wanted to cancel the contract. She was repeatedly told that the contract could only be cancelled by the person in whose name it was in. She repearedly told them that this wasn't possible, he had died. Eventually she gave up.. A couple of days later a male neighbour phoned Sky said he was the person who had died and cancelled the contract!

TS I had fun with Sky also couldn´t cancel it so I stopped the direct debit, they sent the payment to debt collectors I eventually rang them explain yet again that Mum was in a care home etc etc so they let me cancel.

When my husband passed away I had to cancel his internet account. I spoke to the provider and explained what had happened. They informed me that they needed to speak to the account holder, I had to go from one person to another repeating my story. It took me three days to finally get them to accept what I was asking them to do, this was only after I had faxed a copy of his death certificate. All of this was so so distressing added to which I could not understand the people on the other end of the telephone speaking from India in a very strong accent.

Oh gosh, we're going to have fun cancelling my late mum's Sky then - especially as it was in her husbands name - and he died 2 years ago..............

Should we suggest a seance?

Maggie just pretend to be your mother and if they say it was in your Dad's name get your brother to cancel.

That's a good idea Sue, but it would have been difficult in my case to pretend to be my husband.

When we first had Sky my OH worked long and late hours. We sent them his written permission for me to deal with them on his behalf. I haven't tested it with wanting to cancel though!!

I had a bit of trouble cancelling Sky after my hubby died .so I phoned his eldest son to ask him to call in before he went home from work.(he only worked 5 minutes from the house.

Told him the problem and he came up and phoned Sky and cancelled the agreement but they told him anything to keep him on the books..

I didn't watch Sky at all.
