How could I forget the enchantment at about 6.a.m. watching a pride of lions moving through a herd of wildebeest and coming right up to our jeep to drink water out of the pools. I could have reached out and touched them - this was in Kenya. Took about 2 hours.

Also seeing Mount Kilimanjaro at night with snow on the top and a full moon shining down on it. Magic and sooooooooooo romantic!!!!

We love Italy especially Lake Garda and Venice, Paphos some years ago was lovely both visits, Austria and Germany was very special, lots of places in this country especially Llandudno for many years, Florida, but my favourite holiday was a river cruise the Rhine and Moselle, it was very hot but once we were sailing it was perfect...our worst one was Eastbourne, bad hotel weather lousy ,
thankfully not many of the bad ones...

We have had some fabulous holidays in Europe and the Canaries and have just booked one that hopefully will be the best yet.

Maggie mentions how important company is to having a good holiday.

We went to the S'Algar hotel in S'Algar, Minorca in September 1977 and we made friends with other young childless (twinky) couples and it was fantastic. We particularly got on with Tony and Louise from Bathford and exchanged a Christmas card and a letter.

Following year we took a June holiday at the San Luis hotel in Es Cana, Ibiza. And I checked in alongside Tony!! :-0 :-0

I have not been on many holidays and only abroad a few times but it has to be Namibia for me.

We were based at the home of a friend in Windhoek but went off and stayed away a couple of times.

There was the boat trip off Swakopmund when the sea lions came aboard and the flying over the dunes of the Namib in a Cessna. It is surprising how long you can keep your buttocks clenched.

The luxurious flat at Mt Etjo that cost about £40 a night and the game drives.

The Herero women who are dressed in Victorian attire with seven petticoats even in the summer and walk with a peculiar gaite that pays homage to the cattle which are their wealth.

I can't remember ever having a horrible holiday.

We're taking a few days off at the end of February.

We live in a lovely small town, on the coast of NSW. Lovely beach, golf course etc etc, but not much else.

So a few days in a bigger place with restaurants, cinemas & shops sounds good!

Next holiday will probably be to New Zealand ~ haven't been there since about 1980!

I loved our family holidays.
After my Brother in law died, my sister treated us - and by 'us' I mean her, me, our children, their partners and children to a holiday in Tuscany. It rained, but we had an amazing time, just being in each other's company was lovely.
The next year we went to Cornwall en masse (paying our own way) - it rained, but another amazing time.
The following year, expecting rain, and wanting to be within home, we went camping in Wiltshire (we live in Hampshire & Sussex). Another amazing holiday, but we left early because.......it rained :-0

It's not been so much the place - more the company.

We didn't go anywhere last year because my sister's DiL was heavily pregnant. Just as well, because it rained!!!

We're now working out if we can all (16 of us) fit in my mum's 3 bedroomed house in Portugal, if we can't sell it. ;-)

I forgot Paphos a couple of years ago, loved it went in October and had a heatwave.

Chris. When you went to Paphos, was airport built? When we went (1979) there was only Larnaca and a two and a half hour transfer.

Cyprus - holidayed in Paphos about 30 years ago, believe it is very commercial and built up now. Holidayed in Kyrenia some 9 years ago, preferred it and got to see Famagusta again but my home of 1959 is now in no-mans-land.

Sailing in the Grenadines was fantastic in late 80s, as was a swedish log cabin on an island in Lough Erne in N.Ireland complete with boat with outboard motor for exploring. Weather 1st week in September was glorious and cooking whilst I knowing something of N. Ireland's climate had packed woolies, wellies and anorak!
I found my OH's shorts and wore them for the week we were there!

I forgot the Carribbean - The islands of St Marten and Tortola - I knew some people who lived on Tortola and they took us on a private yacht to a private island called Peter Island - absolute paradise - google it and you will see why

The islands of St Vincent and Dominica were ghastly

I think I am the same as you Sue....what one to pick? most have been long haul, but very different.
Cancun was the last holiday I had 5 years ago, I was hoping it would be special...but not quite what I was expecting...ok though
I would say the best place I have been to is Vegas in recent years, although Thailand was great, but a completely different holiday

Do you think we enjoyed those holidayys when we were children as much as these very expensive jaunts as we got older?

This thread makes you get photo albums out and memories flood back. One I remember was Dawlish Warren when I was 7. Happy caravan holiday. One memory is a bit macabre. I remember thinking I loved my mum so much and she was quite old. And would die soon. And I would be very sad. She would have been 28 then. :-)

Depends on the type of holiday.

For seeing places my favourite has to be the fly drive we did. Starting in Phoenix and ( just mentioning a few places) Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Hoover dam, Death Valley, yosetame, San Fran Sisco, Los Angeles and Disney Land.

For relaxing I love Our holidays of 4 weeks in north Tenerife.

But we have had great holidays too driving from Seattle via Vancouver up to the Canadian Rockies, to Glacier park and Yellowstone and back to Seattle.

And driving from Atlanta down to N Orleons via so many wonderful places.

And Florida of course

But the there are so many places in UK we have enjoyed wonderful holidays from Fife in Scotland to Laugharne in Wales, to many places in Cornwall and Devon and near Bridport in Dorset.

Then Europe, Paris, Florence.

Sorry I couldn't single out one, although none of them sound as luxurious as yours Ann.

Grief, what a question? Every country I have visited has had it's own unique attractions.

I guess it has to be Australia, it was the holiday of a lifetime for us. We only had a month so it was pack as much into every day as we could.

I love Cyprus - Aya Napa would you believe - been there five times - brilliant place
Italy - Alassio - fantastic
Ibiza - Es Cana - terrific
Amroth in Wales many many times - great place
USA - East Coast - Delaware, Mass and Penn - all first class

But Mexico without a doubt - tops
