Try radio 4 extra, Dizzi. Not the best night for stories, but the sound of a voice is quite relaxing.

I find music very soothing ................ just orchestral, no voices. If there's singing, I find myself listening to the voice.

I have it on very low, just above hearing point.

I can only do it when OH is away tho' .................. he listens to all music, and it keeps him awake!

How I know that feeling.....I go into the kitchen, have a hot drink, look out at the sky and sea and find that after a while I can go back to sleep, worrying about not sleeping seems to make me even longer awake. :-)

I'm the same as Spanish Eyes, Dizzi. Last night it was extremely windy here and lots of lightning and lashing rain, so not surprising I woke at 4am after 5 hours of fitful sleep.

But I just get up, look at the lights twinkling in the Valley below and make a drink (usually a sachet of cappucino cause I am too tired to look for sugar and milk) and watch something quietly on telly with the cats - like an old Police, Camera Action I have Sky Plussed weeks ago. And back to sleep at 6am for a deep 2 hours extra.

Remember you can sleep like a cat now. With one eye open at all times, and more or less whenever you want. And if you like knitting, you can throw your balls round. :-) :-)

I think Radio 5 live is good for during the night. I have only recently got a tv in my room as I need cable but if I had realised how much I enjoy watching it during the middle of the night I would have sorted it years ago. I have a cup of tea and a biscuit if I feel peckish .-jl

Reading does it for me. I read every night before going to sleep, and if I wake during the night, I read until I drop off again.

i went to my specialist cause ive hardly slept in 2-3 weeks..... no joke.

This is what he said..

Do not drink tea or coffee any later than 6pm and cut out fizzy drinks at the same time...

Stay away from your bedroom till you actually start to feel tired even if its 2,3,4 in the morning, but always get up at usual time ie, 7,8.9.. do not have a radio or alarm clock showing and make sure your windows are blacked out.. one week in and ive had 3 good sleeps already...

Hello Dizzi, having sleepless nights is no joke.
.
I watched a programme some months ago on TV and a Specialist recommended eating 2 Kiwi fruit two hours before going to bed every night. Evidently they contain some ingredient that acts as a sedative in the brian.....???...... I love all fruit and so I have been buying Kiwi fruit and eating 2 just two hours before bedtime as suggested. Healthy, non invasive and not habit forming. Give it a try Dizzi, you have nothing to lose and it does seem to work most nights for me. Good Luck xx

If your'e not using energy though the day then your body wont feel the need to restore its self with sleep.

dont worry if you dont sleep hours when you think you should be,napping is just as good......

When I was younger I found I would regularly lie in bed worrying that I was not sleeping.

Finally I gave myself a good talking too!!!

Along the lines of I am in bed, I am resting even if I am not sleeping did this for a few nights and never had that problem again. Unless I had a problem at work which would eat away at me. But went back to the old principle.

I have found over the years that my system really works for me.

Oh and worse thing to do is feel sleepy, then spend 10 mins getting ready for bed, by which time that sleepiness has passed. If you can just lie on sofa and nap that way.
