I have just received an email supposedly from Amazon....it looks so real......it told me that my order was on hold and if I didn't reply by clicking on a link My account would be closed. It also said my address was unknown and that my bank was refusing payment......I checked my Amazon account to find nothing amiss.....luckily I did not use the link on the email......I googled......

I got one last week..It went to my junk folder so knew it was dodgy...plus the command of the English language did not look that good

It has came to our attention that your Amazon billing information are out of date. This require you to update your billing information as soon as possible. This billing update is also a new Amazon security statement which goes according to the established norms on our terms of service(TOS) to reduce the instance of fraud on our website

The unfortunate thing about these scams is that some people, especially some of the elderly and vulnerable, get taken in by them, these are 5 simple basic steps to avoid them.

1) Make sure you have an up to date security programme running on your computer. If you don't want to spend money, you can get the Microsoft Security Essentials software for free at:-

2) Never, Ever, under any circumstances click on a link in an e-mail that asks details about Your Bank or Credit Cards - NEVER!!!

3) Always ignore any Pop Ups that appear on a web site you are on that say "You Have a Virus"

4) Do not buy anything from any e-mail you have received if you did not ask for that e-mail.

5) If you receive an e-mail offering you something that sounds too good to be true then definitely ignore it.

There are many more precautions that you can take and I am sure other members will add their suggestions.
